Re: Vcarve Inlay Issue
Your last post indicates that you are using a 60 degree V-bit. Your file however is toolpathed using a 30 degree bit. This might be causing your problem.

Re: v-inlay technique problems
Brian, A long time ago my Shopbot was VCarving with the same type of results. Turns out that the Z axis pinion was not seated on the stepper shaft far enough and was binding. When you get to corners in the geometry the Z pulls up while still moving in the X and Y. If it doesn't retract high enough y...

Re: Cannot figure out how to Array Copy a 2 sided job
Tom, I do 4' x 8' sheets of polycarbonate with numerous arrayed parts. All of the geometry is created/arrayed on the front side. Then only the geometry that will require backside machining is copied to the backside and toolpathed there. I'm sure that you know the first step is to determine your meth...

Maple and Walnut. I usually use Maple and Cherry but didn't have a blank ready. The board is 11.5" x 16" and the wings are 4.5" x 11.5" in size.

Re: Bit Overheating (1/8 bit)
Testing is an absolute requirement for every new endeavor with a CNC. There is a tremendous amount of experience to draw from on the forum. Use that experience and your chip load calculation as a starting point then "test, test, test". Here is where I've settled in on with my 3D carvings: 1. As you ...

Fred,
Trust me, it will work. I paid for two ShopBots doing it that way. PM me if you want more on the process.

Sign Foam Help
For all you sign makers, While I have cut HDU signs for others, I have been asked by an associate to machine, finish and install four signs for his development. I will have two 1 1/2" x 32" x 136" pieces that need to be adhered to a concrete bricked pedestal. For these two I envisioned having the pe...

Gerry,
The machine happens to be the Author 427 and looks like something out of a "Transformers" movie! Down the road if we need help I was wondering if we might chat on the phone. If so, PM me.
Randall,
What can I say? Super find.
We now have a path to explore. Thank you both.

I've come across an individual that bought an older used Morbidelli CNC machine. It's a true industrial piece of equipment with spindle, horizontal boring, automatic tool changer and a saw head. He has Vcarve but was unable to get basic files to cut. He was convinced by someone from Alphacam that th...

Re: Sign Vinyl Drag Knife Bit - Widget Works
I've used it on my ShopBot to cut paper and vinyl. I do not use the gadget. I create the vectors and use a standard profile toolpath "machine on vector". Just follow the instructions for setup that comes with the knife. A little experimentation with feed rate will be necessary. I have found that the...

Re: Sealer - pre-stain
Don, I've been using Seal Coat for over 12 years and won't use anything else. The $75 at Home Depot is for a case of (2) one gallon cans. That is the way I purchase it. I use a 50/50 cut as most do and apply two coats. I use all the different stains (water/oil/lacquer) and topcoats with flawless res...
