Re: Projecting Path Onto 3D Model ISSUE
Maybe the resolution used when creating the model of the neck can affect the accuracy of the 'Project Path onto 3D Model' strategy? With the requirement for tight tolerances and miniature bits involved with fret slot cutting, the deviation you're seeing might be more apparent than someone cutting a ...

Re: Clear Coat
Really clean machining. Is that the regular 15psi Dow board? Was thinking of trying some of the higher rated (underslab, load bearing) 80-100psi blue board and OwensFoamular Pink H100 but if the 15psi is producing this result then no real need!

Re: Latest Guitar neck profiles cut and fretboard inlays
Nice work. Are the thin fret slots cnc machined as well? If so where do you get your end mills for that?
Thanks,
Scott

Re: Cutting an open vector
It did initially look viable in a slowed down preview, but on checking the G-code I also see the retracts and rapids to start as you reported in your test. As you show, it can be accomplished manually by the very simple G-code lines. Was hoping the software could have done it though! Your hack is st...

Re: Cutting an open vector
Interesting workaround. I tried it using a single line open vector instead of drawing a very thin rectangle- with profile path (ON), and set the ramp distance equal to the vector line distance using SMOOTH ramp option and it appears do the job. I did not run this on actual work, just ran a slowmo to...

Re: shape profile angle explaination
Also following this thread for hopefully an explanation. Have been adjusting the angle until the model appeared ok, a subjective approach. It would be nice to know how the curvature is determined based on the input angle - this knowledge might allow for more accurate models especially when trying to...

Is the merging/joining sections covered in a tips and tricks video, or in one of the Aspire tutorials?

Re: Depth question
Also have a Probotix Nebula here...had loose motor shaft couplers on both my Y axis motors causing incorrect travel distance. This was around after 1yr of use....tightened up the coupler screws and solved the problem. Good to go over all your couplers and check they are tight.

Re: Rough Edges
I'm not 100% sure in VCarve, but in Aspire there are two more levels of modeling resolution available, but a weird key command is required to access them from the standard drop down list! If you open the program, click on File, then pressing Ctrl and Shift together and select New - the Job Setup tem...

Re: Finishing toolpath "Z maximum height override"
Hello Nicolas, You mentioned the first line move of Gcode is X0 Y0 Z41. Seems very odd for the initial move to try and lift to 41 when set to 5 in the settings..maybe beforehand during the initial creation process there was a setting change which was not recalculated in the associated toolpath ...i....

Re: Finishing toolpath "Z maximum height override"
Looks like the software setting for home position Z height could be the problem. Try reducing to 5 (same as roughing pass) in the software and recalculate the finishing toolpath. As far as setting the bits in the collet, I use a spindle and the ER collet manufacturer specifies inserting the bit shan...

Re: Finishing toolpath "Z maximum height override"
Just an observation from using LinuxCNC but may also apply to your controller/machine..I've encountered a similar Z axis error flag if I insert a long bit (e.g 4" endmill) and then zero on top of a relatively thick material. The combination of large tool stickout, thick work material plus any Z axis...

Re: Improving 3d carving quality
Tried roughing passes and finish passes, and tried finish passes on their own etc. Interesting comment re x-direction vs true 3d finish - what do you mean by this? Is there some magical option I've missed? (hoping so!) Was just a 3d finishing cut with raster strategy (although tried offset etc just...
