Re: Need pointers for how to draw arch with Mortises

When I have done this sort of thing in the past I used the lamination technique. Two outer boards that are just the profile. Then either an inner board with slots or inner pieces. Learned that in the WoodSmith magazine years ago. Makes a lot more sense than tediously cutting a bunch of mortises. I e...

Re: 7 WATT LASER questions

And this is where the cheese gets more binding. . . (old wisconsin cheese head saying). If a person is one of those "my cnc router is the machine that does it all in my shop" they are going to run into problems. The swiss army knife approach, which is what I call hanging a laser on a cnc router amou...

Re: Crossover Network Cable. . .???

I have all the necessary ingredients to retrofit my machine from Mach3 to Centroid Acorn. ...... Famous last words! There is always some sneaky little codicil that jumps out and bites ya in the backside. Honestly, I am thinking about downsizing the whole thing. I am just not making big stuff anymor...

Re: Presetting Z with laser

Focusing on the surface works well for engraving/etching. Depending on the power of the laser, sometimes it pays to focus a bit inside the material being cut. I am running a Creality Falcon II 40w. On thicker stuff, like over 3mm the focus block causes the focal point to be inside the material. This...

Crossover Network Cable. . .???

Well, that did not take long! I posted about possibly changing over to UCCNC and then did not because things were working. And then they stopped working. Sort of. I bought a new rotary axis a while back and it needed to be set up in Mach3, It has a different pulley ratio than the old one. I start up...

Would it be possible to copy all items in the project.

Create a new Project with the new dimensions.

Paste all the objects from the first project copied.

Nothing should change right?

Neil
Nope, things can change.

Re: CNC Pen Making On The Rotary Indexer

Fleming! Thanks! Good to have someone who has worked with this whole concept post that info!

I doubt I will do anymore pens but I filed that PDF for reference in case someone else needs it one day.

Re: Is there a way to do this

I did some digging in my model collection and found these:

I did some more research, there are some column designs that have an undercut base. I stand corrected.

Re: Is there a way to do this

Okay Here it is. Complete Column.png Overall size is now smaller too! Scaled it down to about Mantel Clock Size. Sharkcutup I applaud your efforts. That said, it does not look "right". That is because there are all sorts of mathematical rules/relationships involved in the design of classic columns....

Re: Is there a way to do this

Typically what you need is the file type STL for this sort of thing.

Do a search on amazon or ebay like "3d models for cnc", you will get tons of stuff.

Re: Drilling and sanding on rotary axis

..... You mentioned some sort of stepper controller to allow continuous rotation on a stepper motor. Can you expand on that? Sure. If you go on Amazon or eBay you can find controllers that will run a stepper continuously. Ya gotta be picky because most of them are for itty bitty stepper motors, not...

Re: Drilling and sanding on rotary axis

Phil, you are approaching this sort of backwards. If I recall correctly, you start out making a pen by drilling a hole in a square blank, usually about 3/4 inch square. 7mm hole? I think so. This is where my memory fails me, I think you insert a sleeve into that hole. Then you use a mandrel to mount...

Re: Drilling and sanding on rotary axis

Well Steve, it has been a long time since I made a couple of pens. But I remember using a mandrel, and getting the parts to fit perfectly together and the high speed needed for polishing. Yea, I can make something on a rotary axis that is a cool pen. Lately I have been on a binge about using correct...

Nice job. Sounds like your wife writes articles for home decor magazines, LOL. Mine does the same thing with wine.
