Re: Profile vs Engraving
You can still use vbits just don't use the vcarve toolpath   I have tried that and may go back to doing that. The reason I was using the engrave toolpath with a small endmill was the detail and because it allows clean up in between the two vectors (road sides) using fill option with outli...

Re: Profile vs Engraving
Thanks Adrian. I’m sorry I couldn’t include the file unfortunately I’m at work. So I’m guessing if I selected profile and on the line it would look similar to the engraving tool path? I’m choosing the engraving because I have the option of using “Fill” “Outline” so if anything is left in the middle ...

Profile vs Engraving
I’m attempting to cut out a street map that will go on the inside of a clock face. I don’t have my laser set up yet so I have been playing around with various techniques to carve very small lines at least .2 to .4 deep. (When I try using a Vcarve some of the roads are so shallow I’m afraid that when...

Re: Tool path preview detail
Hi Ben, What you will be seeing here is an effect of the preview simulation quality. When the toolpath you are previewing takes up the full model (like when you made the new 3"x3" model) the preview there gets the full simulation resolution. If your toolpath is a smaller portion of the whole model ...

Tool path preview detail
Hi all, I have a question about the tool path preview. I’m working on a clock that has a roadmap with a lake in the center. I’m adding a compass rose to it as well. I’m working in Desktop. The clock is going to be about 24” round and the center portion where the map is has a diameter of around 13 – ...

Re: Trimming and overlapping
Are you using the Trim tool (looks like a barber pole) or the Interactive Trim (scissors)? The Trim tool is supposed to work that way. Try the subtract tool instead or the scissors if you can't get that to work. You might need to group for the subtract tool depending on what your vectors look like....

Trimming and overlapping
Hi all, I’m trying to create a clock that has a lake and surrounding roads in the middle (looks like a road map) I have an inner circle that is going to separate the numbers of the clock from the road map. This inner circle is also going to act as my trimming line to cut off anything from the map th...

Re: Bit Map Tracing
I'm wanting to use a v-carve to carve the roads but every time I preview its carving everything outside of the roads and not the roads themselves if that makes sense. I'm not sure how to change the setting so it takes everything out inside the road and leaves the rest.

Re: Bit Map Tracing
Thanks guys. I will check both of those out.
Question though.....By using the center line trace how will vcarve recognize that? Does the center line trace just create one vector in the middle of a large line? So if the line is 1/4 in wide it will create one line 1/8 in from both sides?

Re: Bit Map Tracing
I have been playing with the map in Inkscape as well and I'm still getting the same two vectors for roads. What feature in Inkscape would you use to produce the single line from center?

Re: Bit Map Tracing
I know this thread is old but I was wondering if the single line down the center of the raster was ever added to the newer versions? I'm currently trying to create a clock with a street map in the middle following the same process that Jackman Works used in his creation of his Washington DC wall map...
