Re: Need Instructions On Using Open_Book ClipArt
There is a video here that shows how to distort the text to fit the pages: http://support.vectric.com/tips-and-tricks/selectedvideo.php?video_id=8 As far as machining it you'll probably want to use the VCarve toolpath for the text and use the option to "Project Toolpath onto 3D model" to get it to f...

Re: Upgrade from Cut2D 1.5 to Cut2D Desktop 8.5?
Hi Steve, As Martin said, your best bet is to download the trial version and spend some time working with it to see what it will offer you before you pay for the upgrade. That way you can be sure it's beneficial to what you use the software for. Trial can be downloaded from this page: http://www.vec...

Re: I want to learn to model like a pro
The Cintiqs are fantastic if your proficient with a Wacom already. As someone whose used both those and the intuos over many years I'd start with the intuos and see if you get on with it. Lots of people find they can't make the transition from a mouse. So you would not want to spend what a Cintiq wo...

Re: Isolating model in dish
There is no 'easy' way to just remove the dish as they are one model. However its not too complicated to do it, the best method would be to approximate the dish (as a positive shape) by drawing a circle or ellipse the size of it then use Create Shape and dome it to a height that is the equivalent of...

Using the technique I show in this video: http://support.vectric.com/tutorials/V8 ... ude_1.html would allow you to achieve what you need.

Thanks for the kind words, over the weekend I tested (with some friends) the capacity, with two of the magnets in the back it will hold 15 beer caps before it starts to drop them as the photo shows...

Re: Design & Make Models
Hi Martin,
It's a good suggestion and one we've considered. However the V3M format does not support individual components so it's not possible to offer this currently. For the future we are examining many options though although there is no current timeline or details I can offer.
Thanks
James

Beer Cap Catcher
This is a project I worked on last week, now installed in our kitchen. There is a magnet in the back of it which catches the beer cap when you open the beer. Not my idea but perfect for a CNC. Follow the link below to read the article, download the files (for VCarve 8.5 or Aspire 8.5) and also see a...

Re: base height for 3d models - levels
When you set a base height for a level the composite of the models on that level are raised up by that amount. It is not added as a base height to each component - you would do that in the component properties themselves. Another way to think of it is that within a level the software starts with the...

Re: base height for 3d models - levels
Hello Marty, I removed the link to the file as its copyrighted artwork so should not be shared. I did take a look at the file though and it appears to be working correctly. You have two Levels as shown in the image - the bottom one has a 0.1 base height and the top Level has a 0.2 base height. Those...

Re: base height for 3d models - levels
There is not a switch to activate this, it should just work. However the order of levels, components and combine modes will still affect how you might see the result in the composite model. It'll be much easier to help if you can post some screen shots of what your doing which shows your component t...

Moulding Toolpath - V8.5
I cut a sample part today in the Vectric Labs using the new Moulding Toolpath feature in V8.5. I think it came out well, part was cut out of a 26" x 11" x 1.375" board. The Rough cut was done with 0.25" End Mill. Finish with a 0.25" Ballnose, cut out with the End Mill again. Roughing time was under ...
