Re: unexpected results with 4th axis cutting
I thought about slippage as well. But I checked everything and then re-ran the program again and it failed in exactly the same spot. So I’m pretty sure it is not anything slipping. I have used part of this model before, the same.OBJ file That was trimmed a little differently and it cut fine. As sugg...

Re: unexpected results with 4th axis cutting
I'll try cutting around the axis. Gluing up some wood for a small test cut. By the time I get this right, I'm going to have enough pieces to populate a chess board!

Re: Dust extraction
I tried to save money on my dust extraction system, and regret not getting a proper cyclone extractor system, like the Oneida or Laguna systems. (Grizzly and BusyBee Tools also make ones). Were I to do it again I would just get a proper system.

Re: unexpected results with 4th axis cutting
the burn marks are from the roughing cut. The finish cut operates inside the rough cut, avoiding the ends.
Also, I'm adding a picture of the Aspire preview here.

unexpected results with 4th axis cutting
I've done quite a bit of 4 axis cutting, but have a problem that is stumping me. I have a model that I made, that previews in Aspire with no issues. When I cut it, it suddenly changes depth of cutting, at the same spot every time. I ran the program, twice to make sure nothing slipped, but it fails a...

4axis questions
What do people do for zeroing z? Do people make a perfectly round cylinder? What is the best way to do this? How do I zero to the center point? Do I make a block the same height as the center point and zero off of that?
Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

Re: Heart & Roses
Well done. Deeper carvings can be tricky. But it looks like you pulled it off beautifully. Getting rid of tool marks can be tough.

I've jsut completed cutting this model in Spruce (using General Finishes gel stain and Arm-R-Seal topcoat), 23" x 15" x 4", and in Alder, 34" x 23" x 4" (General Finishes Arm-R-Seal topcoat). Scaling up the model wanted to be deeper, but I kept the model at 2.75 inches deep for ease of cutting. I ha...

Plunge rate for rest machining
I am wondering what others do for plunge rate settings for rest machining. (I know safe machine settings are variable from machine to machine). I was doing some rest machining on a large piece but using a 1/8 inch bit. The default plunge rate was 12 inch/min. Program time was almost three hours beca...

Saving a vector drawing in Clipart
Is it possible to save a vector drawing in clipart? I have not been successful at saving just the drawing. I can save a model, but not a drawing. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Gordon

love the detail. I presume you did the stippling around the edges by hand? It adds a nice touch.

I’ve been on holidays, with nowhere to go because of lockdown, so I’ve been doing lots of modeling, carving, and having fun! Carving is 18 x 11. Model was made in Zbrush then imported into Aspire.I actually had a lot of trouble with this one. The less depth a model has, the easier it is to carve. Th...
