I have a job requiring a 3d cut with a 2 - 2.5 inch depth of cut. I've looked at whiteside and precise bits, but neither seem to carry a bit that can do this depth of cut. I don't think it is too grainy. It is easy to see what the plaque is, and to read the lettering.

I like the look of wood. I hate it when clients want something painted, and covers the grain of the wood.

That looks great. Nicely carved. As for finish, Leo nailed it. You can purchase an MDF primer, it makes a TON of difference in the finish.

What if you were to take the handle off of the knife and scan the back? It would be more or less flat wouldn't it? I guess that wouldn't really fix the problem of scaling if the scanner is changing the size of the image.
