Re: 3D Titanium Anodizing Project

Pastel colors applied to a 3 dimensional surface = WOW!.
Yes, but machining titanium is not a trivial task and this process requires a fiber laser.

That's probably beyond the reach of the vast majority of the users of this forum.

Hi,
I totally agree with Ted.
What material were you cutting and how did you measure a 7,35 mm diameter hole?

Mogsy31,

I'm sorry for your loss.

This kind of modelling requires Aspire, so better post on the Aspire part of the forum to be sure Aspire users will see it..

Re: New Project - Tea Tray idea

But 3 mm. good looking birch ply is 3 times more expensive than MDF in my quarters of the world. Yes, and modulus of elasticity of good plywood is more than twice better than MDF. The choice depends on what you want to achieve. https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/timber-mechanical-properties-d_1789....

Hello,

I'm with Steven and Martin.

But I think plywood would be less prone to warping and would result in a better gluing than MDF.

Re: Laser Cutting Project

Seeing Adrian's reply, I suggest another test.

Make 2 toolpaths: 1 for the rectangle, 1 for the tree.

Run the tree toolpath alone: is it OK?

Re: Christmas Tree Topper

I can't see any way to export my 2D toolpaths as an .stl file. If someone can educate me, I would be glad to do so. As for 3D printing, I assume that it would be printed in one piece?? Yes?? So, again, since this is not a 3D model in VCarve, I'm not sure how this will translate into a file for 3D p...

Re: How to stain or poly laser work?

I use a 100 watt laser. In this case I'm pretty sure you're using a smoke extractor. So burning a small amount of poly or stain is not an issue as gases are extracted outdoor from a closed enveloppe. I don't care on my 20W CO2 unit. In the case of a small LED laser mounted on a hobbyist CNC, I'd be...

Re: Four sided project

Kerry,
Without further information, I'd say you had a Z0 issue.
Did you take pictures of the problem?
If not, try again with a cheap piace of wood and take pictures along the process.

Re: How to stain or poly laser work?

Do you have an air assist on your laser head? It's very important to limit these phenomenons and avoid lens pollution by smoke. Do not use any product on the wood before cutting or engraving it with a laser: there is a risk of fire and hazardous gaz emission. Unless there are specific products for t...

Marcel,
If you are looking for an european source, have a look here:

These bits are pretty good. I have been using them for years and discovered they where used by Stephan Forseilles for his inlays.
