Re: Preview Depth of V Carving

Thanks Michael, that's precisely what I needed. I should have noticed the coordinates changing in the display, but didn't know about hovering over toolpath. I do know about limiting carving depth, but in many cases I want the v's to form without flats at their bottoms.

Preview Depth of V Carving

Is there a way to preview depth of V carve toolpath in 3D view?

Software will warn if portions of carving will cut through set material thickness, but if I want to see how close I'm getting to that threshold is there a way to measure or visualize in wireframe?

Could there have been a lead put in by mistake? This coming from a newbie who did it by mistake once...

Steampunk fish! What a cool idea. I'm also drawn to this type of imagery. There's something weirdly appealing about it.

Re: Set start depth above material surface

Thanks Adrian, the workaround you suggested in setting z-zero is easy enough.

I'm curious as to the reasoning that won't allow negative numbers, but perhaps that's a question for Vectric. I'm a relative newbie, so I'll not second guess.

Set start depth above material surface

This seems like it would be obvious, but clearly I haven't figured it out, hence the post. The scenario is V Carving, using the material surface a z-zero. I'd like to increase the visible flats on adjacent surfaces by not plunging as deeply into the carving. Not limiting plunge, but rather changing ...

Absolutely! In fact, relative newbies probably have the most to gain from these events.
OK Randall, I'm in. Don't own a laptop...will I need one?

Would this make sense for a relative newbie?

I've been using Vcarve and CNC casually for less than a year. Will be upgrading to Aspire soon. There's plenty I don't know, but not really wanting to spend time and money to befuddle myself too much.

Re: Wind-up key for my "Rat" Smart car

I freakin' love this. The look is something I've dreamed about, but really have no experience with. If you're of a mind, some basic guidelines on how you did the rusty patina would be appreciated.

Maybe I'll surprise the wife by doing her car...

Funny, I kinda like Becki's accent and manner, but I also use headphones because of lousy hearing. In fact, I must find it kinda soothing, as they sometimes seem to....to...…..make me....sleepy!

Re: Edge Lit Silhouette

Thanks. That makes perfect sense. I'm assuming that's the driver for LEDs in the pocket. I have some experience with LEDs, but have never encountered individual naked circuit boards. If there's a resource you'd be willing to share, that'd be cool. At this point, my thirst for knowledge is far outstr...

Re: Edge Lit Silhouette

Impressive. I'm a newbie to CNC, kinda get how edge lighting works, but am clueless as to how you get different colors to illuminate specific parts. Would love to hear the technical details if you're willing.

Thanks, Peter
