Re: problems

There is a program called "vector magic" which is very handy for creating vectors, only of use on relatively simple designs. Then again, the program has quite a few options which I have never played with. Isn't free, but handy programs that work well usually aren't. Will convert jpg or bmp to dfx, p...

First works in aspire

Had it a couple months now, getting off to a slow start, but I'll get there eventually. Both very simple creations, but nonetheless, both do things that simply cannot be done in 3d machinist. The Jesus in walnut, I simply combined two .v3d files, Jesus bust and barbed wire, and the final result does...

Re: A little handwork combined with a CNC

Nothing wrong with non CNC, I do tons of hand work, including scroll sawing, just don't post about it here.
Looks like you got flower creation to a science, very nice.

Re: GNR edge lit

On a rock n roll roll, did this stones tongue today. As often happens, I forgot to flip the image ,,, Even though I reminded someone else not to forget about that just yesterday. So this tongue is backwards, but doesn't make a huge difference. I think I'll try painting this one red and see how it lo...

Re: GNR edge lit

90 degree v bit, only .009 cutting depth. You just need to scratch the surface, the deeper you go, the more detail that you will lose. I have found that the recipe for successfully etching plexi is slower router RPM's and faster feed. This minimizes the heat buildup that can [will] cause plexi to we...

GNR edge lit

Been in a self imposed CNC rut lately, nothing much to post. Was tooling around in the garage and decided to fire up the machine. I have had this dfx for weeks, and decided to cut it in .5 plexi. Came out decent, not my best work. Was basically a scrap piece, with scratches all over and some glue fr...

Re: Import from Vector Art 3D

Sounds like you are clicking the icon, and machinist is opening it because it is the program associated with it. You can open them in Aspire with a click, but you'll have to change associations. Right click a .v3m file, and chose "open with". If Aspire is not listed in the choices, click "chose prog...

Mike, 2nd batch I bought was at Blicks, a national art supply outlet, it was just as bad as Michaels.

Sculpture Supply Canada http://www.sculpturesupply.com (866) 285-5509 345 Munster Ave Toronto, Ontario M8Z 3C6 Canada Is listed as a supplier I'll give it another go and see if I can break that chunk up tomorrow. Hole of the bottle is very small, so you are limited in the size of an object you can s...

Re: "Sophisticated finishes"

I used the Sophisticated Finishes iron paint on this with no problems whatsoever. Very happy with the result. Looks great, so yours was not coagulated into an iron chunk in the bottle ? I really hate to slam a product, especially one I don't have much experience with. But is seems to me that this s...

Re: "Sophisticated finishes"

Yes, have heard of Sculptnouveau, but tried SF first, as I greatly prefer to buy from a store than mail order.
Appears I will have to give it a try.

"Sophisticated finishes"

I am sure some here have used the patina paints "Sophisticated finishes", which give an antique look to items it is applied to. I have used the copper with mixed results so far, I didn't expect jaw dropping results right off the bat. Now with the iron solution, I first bought one of the smaller bott...

Re: Jesus Loves You [acrylic]

All depends on what effect you are after, and what you are working with. You do tend to get more details with less depth. Sometimes I profile a bit deeper, and do the pockets very shallow. This emphasizes the outline, and can be a great looking effect. When I botch a cut, I usually save the wrecked ...
