Re: Maximum Job Size Aspire?
There is no job size limit in Aspire and VCarve Pro.

Make sure you double check the settings. Unless they've updated it in the last couple of months there are quite a few errors/odd settings in that database.

For files you got directly from Design and Make you can log into your account on that site and download from the Your Orders tab.

Re: Tool database
Check you haven't changed your material/machine settings at the top of the form or even that you haven't selected a different database entirely.

Re: Gcode preamble
Have you looked at the post processor editing guide on the Help menu in VCarve?
You need to provide a bit more info on what you're struggling with. Editing, location, saving, associating with machine etc etc?

Re: Help with difficult 3D carve
All comes down to the end goal in the end I guess. I use my CNC to pay the bills. 40 hours for a single job like that would have me shutting up shop very quickly. Surprised that it came out that well given the appearance of the file but I would never have contemplated cutting something that size wit...

Consider looking at joints designed to be cut on a 3 axis CNC using a standard end mill. 50 Digital Wood Joints by Jochen Gros Dovetail-Key-Corner.jpg Jigsaw-Mitre-Joint.jpg FiftyDigitalWoodJoints.png Im having a hard time accessing these joints. How do I download these? Click the link that says "D...

Are you 100% sure you have the material in the same orientation on the machine as it is in Aspire? I did that more than once back when I first started.

Re: Mixing reference systems in one file
You can vary the Z position from sheet to sheet so you can have one or more sheets with it on the surface and one or more sheets with it on the machine bed. Use the Edit button within the Sheets tab to change it per sheet. That way you can do it all in one file but be careful as it's very easy to ge...

Re: Moulding toolpath
Unless you've cut a job and worked out what the scale factor needs to be for the type of job the time show isn't that relevant. A scale factor of 2 is massively out for 3D work in my experience. The amount of Z moves in job can hugely effect how long it takes. The estimate has no concept of accelera...

Re: Do I understand the XY datum offset correctly?
If you want to use a fixed XY position then yes.
These days I use 8x4 sheets exclusively so I never change my XY but back when I did smaller sheets I always just zeroed to the corner of the material rather than using offsets. That seems to be the way most people do it.

Re: Save toolpath parameters
Send an email to Vectric requesting it to be added to future versions. If enough people want it it might get added.
Personally I save all my toolpaths to a single file so it's not an issue for me.

Re: Help with difficult 3D carve
16" x 11" is a decent sized model. You shouldn't need to be using a 1/32" bit overall on a model of that size. With a Design and Make model of that size all the detail would be achievable with a 1/8" bit. With 3D it is very much a case of garbage in and garbage out. That model is very poor when you ...

Looking at your pictures you're online. The OP says it happens when he's offline. Once he logged in he was able to change everything as expected.

Re: Newbe Help
Welcome. The important thing is that whatever datum you have set in VCarve when you calculate and save the toolpaths must match where you have the XY zero set to on your machine. If you use a center datum in VCarve but your XY zero on the physical machine is set to the bottom left then you're going ...
