Re: Cutting 3D Art Into Acrylic

the program seems to want to cut the complete planar surface, whether there is any feature there or not.
Try putting a vector around the outside of the place you want to carve. Have that vector highlighted when you create the tool path. This will exclude the tool path from the outside flat areas.

Re: Memorial Plaque

Nice design and the final product turned out great. PVC is usually bad as far as "fuzzies." Can you tell us a little about how you got such a nice finish?

Re: Holiday Inn sign

Excellent.
The background texture and the golf ball dimples really set it off.

Re: FA 1-6 Assassin

Very impressive.
A human figure is the hardest subject to get right and you've done a great job of modeling the Assassin.

Re: Coloring like laser engraving

This was done in clear pine. Quarter rounded the edges on a table router, then gave them two coats clear gloss spray lacquer and let dry. Carving was then done as a "profile done on the vectors" with a 60° V-bit cutting 0.03" deep. Then gave them a sloshy coat of Minwax golden oak and quickly wiped ...

Very nice job on the bowl and the finish is impressive.
How'd you cut the interior of the bowl?

Re: 3D roughing/finishing applies to entire piece

A square vector around the 3D portion will constrain the carved area--text can be placed on the material surface (second picture). A bigger vector around the 3D portion and the text requires that "Project toolpath onto 3D model" be checked, so it's not "erased" by the 3D carve tool. If you make the ...

Re: 3D roughing/finishing applies to entire piece

If you're V-carving the text, select "Project toolpath onto 3D model" (near the bottom of the create V-carve flyout.) This will move the text down from the material's surface to your 3D carving's surface.

Re: o Pistol

This file is set up for a 2-rail sweep. You can also superimpose a texture bit map on top. Grips are bloodwood with ebony stain. Texture tool for bark-like look with a 60° V-bit. Some hand work is required on the backs for the ambi-safety on one and up near the slide on the other. Also need to reces...
