Re: Painting Carved Lettering and shallow text

When I'm painting/staining my vcarved text I usually add .03 to my toolpath's depth, paint it (brush or spray) while it is on the CNC then mill the .03 off. Usually 220 sanding is all it needs and even fine text is preserved. I do seal the surface first if I'm staining, not so much for paint. If I'm...

Re: How about doing an air cut.

When I'm using screws to hold my project I always create a toolpath to put the screws where I know they will be safe. I put a couple of clamps on the piece while I cut the screw-holes... then screw it down and get started. If I'm cutting inside profiles I also put screws on the inside off-fall so I ...

Re: Text

You must be using one of the fonts with a "@" sign in front of the name. Switch to a font without the @ and you should be fine.

Re: Odd Results

My guess is that Bob is on the money with your machine capability. If you push your machine too fast or too deep it can bog down and lose it's place. If you go too fast while plunging it will skip a step and then it cuts deeper. If you crowd it on x it will skip in that direction and you are off on ...

Re: More Baby Picture Frames

Nice looking frames! One issue with frames made from a piece of hardwood, they can be very fragile... the 'skinny' edge of your frame can easily warp and/or crack. I found a method that makes those edges pretty stable. I make a fat 'popsicle' stick that runs the direction of the grain (I usually cut...

Re: Layers

Michael is spot-on (as usual.) When I model I put the vectors on a "vector" layer so I can turn them off when I have the model complete. I also create layers for different parts of the model... name the layers so you can quickly recognize what is on it. Watch the Vectric tutorials... there is so muc...

Re: Carving a lake with narrow shoreline borders

If you look at the Toolpath 2D drawing style (solid) it shows you are cutting everything inside the vectors. If you aren't getting the same when you cut it you may need to lower your z-zero a bit or add some start-depth. Your file previews just fine.

Re: Moulding toolpath with 3 d model help

I believe the moulding tool creates a 3-D 'shape' that is not the same as a 3-D 'model.' You cannot 'project a toolpath on a 3-D model' with a moulding toolpath. I don't know about the manual or the tutorials. I could be wrong.

Re: Distort tool is changing Layer! Why?

I just created a file to see what you were talking about and after I had distorted and baked I used "convert to curves" and was able to ungroup and move everything back to original layers. Is this what you need?
