Re: Control of cutting order in CUT 2D
Can someone please explain how the cutting order is determined by Cut 2d - and how far and how it can be influenced by the programmer. I have files with major increase in cutting time due to quite illogical cutting paths :( You can specify your own cutting order by treating every vector individuall...

Re: Cut 3D - does not "see" holes in model
@Adrian - I see what you mean. I edited the model to size the holes out to 3.1mm and they appeared. Armed with this new knowledge, I will avoid this in future. Draco, My quick and dirty way of getting around holes or spaces the exact size of the cutter is to reduce the cutter diameter by a very sma...

I've just loaded your test text file into my copy of Mach3 and the graphic display shows a square and a circle.

Re: Engraving
Anybody have a good engraving solution?' I've been playing around with bits, fonts, and RPMs on my Sieg X2 (max 2500 rpm) and just busted up my 3rd bit. Heres what I need. I'm engraving 260 brass. The text needs to be .25" high, depth is not that important. I need a font/bit combo that works well a...

Re: How to cut a stepped hole in Cut3D
Someone from Vectric, please respond: Please see the attached file. This should be a very simple operation in Cut3D; I DO NOT WANT my machine to be jogging up and down trying to cut the entire hole in profile. It should cut the first layer down (.125 deep), move to the next layer (.5) down, and the...

Re: Questions about Cut2D
Thanks for the info Jim! Yes I realize that I won't get square corners but I will be cutting 1/2 PVC for the final piece using a 1/8" bit so that will work out ok for me. Just getting this far is a real delight!! I have put in "bridges" in the center piece and at various places around the outside t...

Re: Questions about Cut2D
Hi Jim Have have managed to work my way through the tutorial and this is the end piece that I have drawn up. Now I just have to figure out how to get it over into Cut2D so I can see what it will look like in 3D. John, To get it out of Draftsight, do a File/Save As/ and in the "Save As Type" drop do...

Thank you for the assistance! I have d/l'ed the free cad program and am very excited to finally get started on this project. Re: Questions about Cut2D
My question is, will I be able to draw the end pieces, as shown in the link above, with Cut2d and be able to draw the "ribs" to make it look like it was put together in sections? John, For complex shapes like the end pieces, it's much easier to draw them in a 2D CAD package then export them as DXF ...

Re: Top surface - mould machining questions.
I thought that we had it all under control, however the issue we have come across is that when the area is limited inside of the model boundaries the program will not let the x & Y offset be set correctly. The bottom left corner of the box of the machined area keeps jumping to the centre of the mod...

Re: dxf import brings in hidden layers???
Frank, Does your software give you an option to output an R12 DXF. Apparently this version of DXF file is the last one before Autodesk started adding in a lot of additions to the "standard" which made life difficult for other programs importing files. It's probably indicative that my copy of ACAD LT...

Re: Top surface - mould machining questions.
The other concern that I would like to address is to limit the machining to only the area represented by the plan form of the mould recess. Do you have any ideas on if this is possible. I do it by limiting the material size. I did have some problems attempting this which was the starting topic of t...
