Re: Still a newb and have a few question
Or like Martin54 suggested, you could photgraph the template and do a bitmap trace, but not sure it can be done with Cut2D. The photo idea has some issues to overcome in regards to parallex error. Or you can import the picture into a CAD program like Draftsight (free to download) and trace round th...

Re: Machine Vectors wrong cut distances
Martin, It does look like a machine problem or tool problem. For example the GCode for your hole cutting in the second file shows that the code is showing a tool movement of 0.5mm plus the tool diameter of 1mm gives a hole diameter of 1.5mm N220G3X6.946Y21.929I0.000J-0.250F360.0 N230G3X7.196Y21.679I...

Re: different tool error, and HI
Thanks for the replies guys. I was back and forth between the tool selection and had them edited the same, except for maybe they were given 2 different numbers and I didn't catch it. Tim, One method you can use if you want to use the same type and diameter of cutter with varying settings is to choo...

Re: Cutter change
Bondo, I was just showing the tool change line which appears in every Cut2D file that I generate. If I wanted to have one file to cover all the toolpaths for a job with two or more cutters, then I would generate the toolpath files for each cutter, then edit them together to get one large file. To ed...

Re: Cutter change
As a default on my Cut2D, a tool change line is put in at the start of the file ( 52x150Setts-1mm ) ( File created: Friday, April 25, 2014 - 09:03 PM) ( for Mach2/3 from Vectric ) ( Material Size) ( X= 156.006, Y= 57.025, Z= 3.000) () (Toolpaths used in this file:) (Cutout) (Tools used in this file:...

Re: 3DCut will not open a 3D DXF
Hello all, I have AutoCAD 2014 and I have made a 3D drawing "3 x 3 x 1 block with a 1/2 hole". I go to 3DCut and open and it just hangs... (it is not the computer (HP Z600 workstation) Maybe if you can save your DXF in an older version and not the default 2014 version that your AutoCAD 2014 does, t...

Re: Facing
Thanks, I'll give this a try. I've finally had a chance to play more with Cut2d over the last few days. So far it seems quite nice for the price. The only real disappointment I have so far is it's lack of support for tool changes. I use Mach3 and cut a lot of parts that require multiple tools; it w...

Re: Trying to find a better hold down system.
I normally work with double sided tape or clamps. But recently, when cutting small parts, I've started machining from plate of appropriate thickness and of much larger size so that the plate can easily be clamped at its edges with the clamps well away from the cutter. The parts are cut with tabs so ...

Re: help needed scribing
Steve, What happens if you set the spindle speed of your diamond drag tool to zero in the tools database? I know that my copy of mach3 will accept S=0 for spindle speed in the GCode and keep the spindle stationary. I was trying something similar to you a month or two ago and looking at dragging a to...

Re: Funny Bug in V1.507
Tim, I don't think this is a bug, just the way computers do math internally. It normally occurs when using toolpath setup variables that are equal multiples of each other. It has only happened to me since I upgraded to V1.5 recently - I can't remember it ever happening with the older version I was u...

Funny Bug in V1.507
When cutting an "O" shaped pocket I get very peculiar GCode generated. On the last anti-clockwise inner cut before changing to clockwise for the outer cuts, the GCode generated gives a huge series of plunge cuts around the circular path rather than an arc directive. It does effectively cut what it i...

Re: New Machine
I really don't know where all you guys are getting these pc's with a 25 pin printer port on them. I see some older laptops & desktops with 9 pins but no 25 pins and many of you do not mention a smooth stepper which is making me scratch my head because you seem light years ahead of me in CNC'ing yet...

Re: Holes and recesses are not lining up - Help
I would double check the co-ordinates in the GCode for the problem areas before hunting for problems in the machine, just in case there has been a problem in generating the code.

Re: Stepover amount
Thanks Xxray, I understand what you have pointed out, however, I'd like to set bigger stepover if I use pocket function to finish material surface or something like that. One method you might want to look at is editing the GCode produced by Cut2D. Say you have set up to cut a pocket with 40% overla...
