draw the line then use the offset feature.

I use an engraving bit set at a depth of .002". I then run pencil mark down each line so it stays visible.

Under the Modeling section, use the Create Shape tool to create the recess using either a selected height or a subtract distance, then start another component and select the text and raise them to the height you want. More times then not, you have two vectors sitting on top of each other but connected somewhere. You can play around different ways to find it, but one of the easier ways is draw a few parallel lines though them and cut between the lines to separate them. Then select duplicate vectors.

I cut out the entire frame. I used a extra long 1/8" bit. Much deflection. I now have it figured out how to cut it with a 1/4" bit. I've just done several more intarsias, and to avoid deflection and/or breakage of the small bit, I increased the passes by 50%. Little slower but worked good. By the w...

I wouldn't count on it. My stand alone Laser, I export dxf files from Aspire then run it with the Laser software.

Another problem, which is probably more common is you have an open vector that is attached, but is too close to see.
