Looking for ideas for coffee table

I was thinking of building a coffee table with the top being a snowmobile trail map around a buddies cabin where we sled a lot. Was looking for ideas, like the legs or even sides to do some carving on. I seen this ski leg table on the net. Was thinking of things like that. Maybe make some of the sid...

Re: Milling a vacuum grid

Just from my last job I did on my router. I used a 4 flute HSS 1/4" mill, plunge at 3ipm, speed at 10ipm, depth per cut .015 inch to do the profile cutting. I used a bottle of Windex (it was sitting close by) for my coolant by misting the piece about every pass. I did speed up my cutting to 15ipm wi...

Re: pocketing question

The pocketing issue for me only became really apparent when cutting this aluminum box since my steps were so small. When I do my wood projects it isn't much of an issue. I will experiment with more settings to see if I can tweak it without having to edit the code. I often start machining something a...

Re: pocketing question

I understand I can edit a file, I was just wondering if I was missing something in Aspire that may control that. I notice profiling doesn't do that. I wonder if the post processor could be adjusted for that? I use Mach3.
Thanks for the responses.

Re: pocketing question

I ran a test pocket with both my VCarve v3 and Aspire v2 and they both did the same thing. It is a 2D pocket.

pocketing question

I must not be seeing something but how do I create a pocket tool path so as the tool does not retract and go to safe Z after each pass. I was cutting a pocket yesterday that added too much time in the raising and lowering unnecessarily. This particular pocket the tool could have stayed down for the ...

Nick's Sander

I purchased a kit from Nick's Equipment Sales online at http://www.nicks.ca/Toolkits.html. I never seemed to have time to build it so I finally purchased a Sand-Flee. It has been a very handy thing to have in the shop.

If this was on my machine I would say my constant velocity in my mach software was turned on. Depending on what I am cutting I need to remember to turn it on or off as needed.

Flat-Pack Mallet

Any one ever see any plans for something like this? Looks like it would make a nice fun project, like the dinosaurs. It is called a "Flat-Pack Mallet" and seems to come from the land down-under. Neat idea.

Here is a copy of my Dinosaur file. I used a 1/4" bit, tried up spiral, O-Flute and even a down spiral. Also tried some WD40 and a few others. Nothing seemed to make a whole lot of difference. I did break one bit and what I think it was that the plastic would load up on the bit. I would stop and cle...

I already do something like this for this sign I made for a friend to display his special tile. I did it so I could use a key cutter and not have to move my work piece. I have the key cutter start in the middle, plunge down below the surface and then cut the profile and back to center and retract. T...

I just updated a map I have on Google maps showing most of the places I shipped machinist level boxes I make on my machine. It was pretty easy and fast. If someone wishes to take some time this could work out, check it out. my link http://www.google.com/intl/en_us/images/maps_results_logo.gif Schofi...
