VA3D Collection Panels

Each panel is 21X24". I used the Shopbot surfacer to true up the panels to make them nice and flat after gluing up and letting dry. They are the "Animal", "Flourish" and new "Dasch" collection which will be coming out soon. Lettering was done with a 60° V and all dishes were done in a single pass wi...

Thanks for all you nice comments! Steve, pocketing is never really an issue for me. Just a slight flub on my part this time around. Nothing an orbital sander and a little more elbow grease can't take care of. :-) More carvings to come. -AD

The piece is 8x8 and the carving in the middle is 6.5x6.5. Since the carving was small I roughed it with a .25 spiral UC and finished wi...

Sample Carvings

Well if anybody has bought a new Shopbot lately, it came with a DVD call "Get Carving Quickly" put together by James Booth. I thought I'd just show a few of the carving projects that are on the disk. -AD

You really shouldn't lose any detail. They way I do it is I find the deepest final depth of the reliefs I'm carving, and use that depth for the pocketing toolpath to hog out the rest of the material. And in the end I'll use an 1/8" em to profile the reliefs and give them that sharp clean edge. Doing...

I have to agree with the Z losing position. That or the material wasn't anchored down well enough and moved as the bit rode over it. - AD

That's nice. Try decreasing your stepover to maybe 10 or 8% in the finishing pass. It'll take longer but should get rid of those lines and give you a smoother cut. - AD
