Butterflies on Walnut Vase

This is a recent piece done on the indexer. The shape and butterflies are 3D carved and the background
plantings are V-carved. The wood is black walnut. Vase is about 9" tall and 3" diameter.

Re: Sources for V-Carving Vectors

There are some free vectors for nature scenes on http://3axis.co/
They are mostly for plasma cutting but might be close to what you are looking for.

Re: Wood Finishing Book

For natural finishes the above suggestions are right on. If you are interested in coloring some of your projects there is a new book out:

Re: cutting a single pass?

To solve the problem of cutting the spoilboard I set my material on top of those rubber spacers used to separate ceramic tiles. They are uniform thickness (about 1/8"), doesn't matter if your cutter hits them as they are soft rubber, are sold by the bag, and are inexpensive!

Re: Amana tools vs. cheap ebay engraving bits?

I have used the Amana insert bits for a several years. They are very long lasting as far as sharpness is concerned BUT the V-bit points become rounded very quickly and therefore become useless for doing V-Carving of fine text. For that type of work I have better luck with the Whiteside bits.

Using Laser on Indexer

Got a laser for Christmas. Wrote Mach3 PP for it to work on my indexer. After Christmas I bought some glass ornaments on sale real cheap and also got some cheap battery powered lights. Made these for a local non-profit. Lots of fun!

Re: 3D Cutting and Laser Enhancement

Ted,
Your post is very timely as I am in the process of setting up a laser on my CNC. So far I have been able to make a Mach3 laser post processor for both my tabletop and my rotary. Your G code suggestions are very helpful.

Thanks,

Paul

Scott,

Holiday Poinsettia Sled

Wife saw a picture of a holiday sled with poinsettias, ribbons, and holly she liked and so I created my own version using Aspire. The sled is 24" long by 8" wide carved from white oak and painted. The runners were cut separately and attached to the main body. Holiday Sleigh 2.jpg Holiday Sleigh 3.jp...

Holiday Candle Holder

To go with Michael's holiday wreath I designed this candle holder using the same leaves as the wreath. Cut out of pine on indexer.
