Re: Which Toolpath Operation to choose?

The attached picture shows how it can be done with the fluting tool using a series of parallel vectors.

Keep in mind that the fluting toolpath defines the path of the center of your tool.
Thank you Mike, you just taught an old dog a new trick.

Re: Which Toolpath Operation to choose?

I didn't see the width or depth before doing the little video but here is how I'd try it. You can still use the math to get what you need I think.

Re: newbie question

Gary is right. Here is an example: https://youtu.be/sMwSovOpsqI Sorry there was no sound on the video. I'm doing a simple hand written file, 2 rows and 7 columns of 3" squares. In the L10 C7 R2 X4 Y4 line, I'm doing 2 rows of 7 columns and offsetting each part 4" from the previous part's starting po...

Re: joining open vectors

There's also the case of the open contour having too wide of a gap for the "Join Open Vectors" to work (there is a tolerance). In that case, try joining it with a straight line or an arc.

Re: joining open vectors

You might also check for open vectors. Sometimes one of those tricky little pests hides underneath of your closed contour. I've also found open vectors hiding completely off my material on something that I imported after starting a project.

Re: Need help with a pen tool

I did a test. Came out great with both outline and fill. Spring loaded rig with a marker in it. I have another question. Since the holder is spring loaded, do I need to set a "cut depth"? Or will the software (Vectric) not go if there is no cut depth? (I can't do another test until tomorrow.) Mine ...

Re: Need help with a pen tool

Thanks Queen, Should I use either the Profile or Pocket toolpath to outline or fill? I've used both. For outline I usually just draw on the line. After all I want to represent my drawing correctly. I've done some pretty cool fill work too. You can lie to the software and tell it the tool has a litt...

Re: Need help with a pen tool

Thank you for that. I just got a few pen tip prototypes to review for a good friend. That setup makes it much easier. Nice video. That thing is smoking.  Happy to help. Yeah, I did the drawing for my grandson's elementary school project. They showed the video to the students. Needless to...

Re: Need help with a pen tool

The pen tool I have fits into a tool collet and actually holds a fine point marker. I set mine up as a regular end mill with a diameter of the width of my marker tip (about 0.045"). Mine allows the marker to float (move inside the holder) about 0.050" so I set it up so that it is zeroed with enough ...

Re: Converting vectors to fonts or?

I don't think there is a way to convert vectors into fonts but if you are happy with the scanned vectors you've created, I recommend exporting them as a DXF file. That way you can import it into any file you want. Once you've gotten them imported you can resize, place, and alter them any way you wan...

Re: Adding toolpath colors in Aspire

Is this what you're asking about? From the Toolpath Preview dialog, choose the toolpath you want to set the color for and then click the down arrow beside Toolpath Color. Select the color you want for that toolpath and you're finished.

Re: Using v bits for creating letters

Not sure if anyone mentioned it or not, but if the spoilboard isn't milled flat, and/or if the material isn't milled flat, you're going to get crazy cuts while v-carving. Where the material surface is higher than your material set height it will cut wider (deeper cut). Where the material surface is ...
