Hi
Create a simple rectangle or circle in Aspire and see if the g code produced with the post processor can be cut on your machine. If you can cut some thing simple, you are able to cut any thing. Aspire will accept dxf files.

Fixture saving is not the same as saving the config settings. Under config at the bottom of the drop down is setting saving. Once you have saved it there, you must restart Mach.

David, I have cut a lot of plywood in the past. I started using the surface of the spoil board to zero my Z because the material is not always the same thickness. I was cutting all the way through so it made it easy. Experiment and you will learn quickly. I set up a file for the material being 0.75 ...
