Re: Sign carving bits

Mick,

You would enter it as an engraving bit. Just be sure to enter the half angle (as shown in the diagram in the tool database) and not the full included angle like a normal v-bit.

Re: First CNC Project

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make Mike. You do a lot of steps to go from Bezier curves with 31 nodes to Bezier curves with 27 nodes, a difference of only 4 nodes. On my machine, Bezier curves are cut as straight line moves but I have never had any issue getting poor results with v-carve...

Re: First CNC Project

Forgot to mention, if you convert the text to curves (4 rows down 4 over in Vector tools, object to curves) you will get the best results It's a node thing Glenn, Are you saying that simply converting text to curves before v-carving results in better results? If so, give this a try: Take a single l...

Re: Can Vector Art 3D be used with VCarve pro?

Yes you can. If you have Cut3D you can prepare the 3D toolpaths in that and then import the toolpaths into VCP to incorporate with 2D toolpaths. If you don't have Cut3D, you can download the free 3D Machinist software from VectorArt 3D, along with some free 3D models, and experiment. You can find th...

Re: Aspire running time

Hi Jim,

I can't help you with Mach 3 settings, but in Aspire you would click on the icon circled in the first snip and adjust the settings and units shown in the second snip. Maybe with this the FAQ I linked above will make more sense.

Re: Aspire running time

Jim, You need to set the Scale Factor and Rapid Rate for your machine. This FAQ will walk you through it: http://support.vectric.com/aspire-questions/item/how-to-get-estimate-of-machining-time Over time you can develop different Scale Factors for the type of toolpaths you are running (2D or 3D for e...

Re: flute bowl questions

Semantics. The important point is the program only allows a positive start depth and therefore only uses the absolute value found in the input box.

It has been this way since the very first version and I personally don't see it as 'broken' - you just need to understand how the program works.

Re: flute bowl questions

set the start depth at -.03". This will cut the surface .03" higher than the finish cut, the same as if you set Z0 .03" above the material.
That will not work. The Start Depth box will not allow a negative number so all you are actually doing is setting it +0.03" deeper.

Re: 3d toolpath and outer profile

Posting the file will not help. Files created with the Trial versions can only be opened by yourself and Vectric. As for estimated times, you can't go by that until you have actually run files and adjusted the Scale Factor for your machine and the type of toolpath (2D verses 3D for example). The sam...

The two rail sweep will easily create the 3D model. The challenge will be getting good results machining the near vertical sides with 3D toolpaths.

You may want to investigate the dangers before using Shellac in an enclosed area before you proceed. Here is the MSDS Hazards section for the Zinsser brand of Shellacs: http://www.rustoleum.com/MSDS/ENGLISH/850.PDF For shellac you have prepared from flakes, review safety information for denatured al...

The shortcut to copy and mirror horizontally is Ctrl-Shift-h.

The shortcut to copy and mirror vertically is Ctrl-Shift-v.
