I'm not sure on your machine(or what plate set-up), but in Shopbot... You want to get out your calipers, pick out a spot on the plate, and measure thickness exactly.... and then enter the exact thickness in your machine's OS set-up. PLATE THICKNESS.jpg And mark that spot on plate to Z-Zero after a b...

Shark used a VBit in his example,and VBits always have that fuzzy look because of the point. If Shark had stuck in a 30degree engraving bit with say a .005" flat and about an 16-24% stepover.... It would look very different. I frequently use a bit like that for tiny detail. For your size workpiece, ...
