Re: My new Saw Vise

Aha...That's what it is :) SO much easier to figure out when you see the saw in it Bill :) That's as well made an addition to your bench as the vise was! I'll probably cheap out with facing a vise with surface soft wood when I do my Dad's old Craftsman. Well Done Bill!! Thanks for the step by step e...

Re: Bit slipped

+1 on probably replacing collet, and would check collet nut race as well(?) We were wearing out 1/8" collets every 5 months when we were doing buttons 50 hours a week. Collet nuts about twice as long. Dense oily woods look virtually finished after only one coat of oil here....but I do more anyways :...

Re: Bit slipped

Kinda thought it was him :) :)
But nice to leave it to people's opinions as the "Phantom Guitarist" (Satriani/Buck Dharmha/etc......).
Nice choice of wood and bit until..... Doug :)
Rosewood will be a challenge to get better than Nature:)
Keep up the great work!

Re: Bit slipped

Aah...That kinda explains that. IF from bottom right corner though...even dropping Z-Zero .005" and running again after checking collet/bit for "banding/galling" SHOULD have given it to you just by a quick look, But then I'm not there like you Doug....I might have thrown the piece across the room:) ...

Re: V-Carve text rarely comes out like it looks in in VCarve desktop

Good suggestion for a work-around Bill(I frequently raise my Z a bit to start, and then lower to get exact effect I want on things like tiny script fonts for a "delicate" look). But think having it entered as an engraving bit for an accurate preview for OP is a better start. (Bet that if it was metr...

Re: Having an issue with a carve not showing or carving everything

Nice job Shark! That may be another candidate for a 60 degree Engraving bit with a .01" flat(?) After roughing, may be a candidate for a drenching coat of de-waxed shellac(Zinsser?).... and then the engraving bit with stepover for roughing at at 40%(?) and Finish at say 18%(?) Steep angled sides, yo...
