Re: Model is coming out much wider than programed???
Have you calibrated your machine? This is a task usually completed from within your motion control software.

Re: Chamfer the face of an object
I find that using a cutter with the appropriate side angle yields great results, i.e. 90° included angle cutter will give nice clean 45° chamfered edge. Oops, sorry I just noticed you were looking at a variable depth.

Re: small radius on inside corners
Draw a smaller rectangle in each corner, then mill inside that with the smaller bit. Gary If you are machining an inside corner of a pocket, you will never get a sharp or 'square corner. The reason for this being the cutter used for machining, this is what creates the corner radius. The tool diamet...

Re: 3D Profile
Although some improvement is evident the 1/8" path it unfortunately increases the run time nearly 28%. This is where REST Machining comes in, it allows for refining the carving of detailed areas with a smaller tool with out having to machine areas that won't benefit from the smaller tool. By machin...

Re: 3D Profile
The attached picture illustrates a 1/4" ball cutter path with a 4% step over. Also, try previewing with a 1/8" ballnose at 8% stepover Thank you Adrian, John, Randall and Pete for your comments and suggestions. I have attached 2 pictures with my screen setting moved to the highest resolution. The f...

Re: 3D Profile
Not that I am aware of - but you could create a profile vector for an end mill Or you could create a seperate smaller set of vectors around the contour and use a smaller tapered ball end mil to sharpen the contour Pete, I'm thinking this would yield the same results that I currently have and would ...

Re: 3D Profile
Thanks John, but if memory serves me correctly the rest machining process allows contour machining with a smaller cutter into areas where a larger one simply can't get to. I simply want to smooth things up a bit.

3D Profile
Is there a way to run a profile path to follow a 3d contour? If not perhaps this may be an opportunity for a software enhancement. Basically the results I would like to accomplish would be the elimination (or reduction) of the small tool cusp formed during a finishing operation. The attached picture...

Re: Has anyone cut cloth?
What about using a rotary blade? These work similar to a drag knife.

Definitely a laser. Multiples can be lazed at the same time yielding a product requiring little or no secondary operations.
