Re: Etching Acrylic is a Drag

Thank you all. Preview was perfect. TAP plastics says probably extruded, but I got it from the leftover/cutoff bin so might be cast. I did flatten/tram my board, but it has been a while and I probably should do it again. Clearly the drag didn't lift off the material (and I did want the little gap as...

Re: Etching Acrylic is a Drag

Not Poly..but curious, what if it was? Cast? How does this relate? Slower? Faster?

New to the diamond drag...but how is this different?

Thanks,
T

Etching Acrylic is a Drag

Etching Acrylic. This is 1/2" acrylic cut with a 120 deg diamond drag at 750 mm/min (their recommendation) and 0.1" pressure, 45 deg etching fill. I've had good success with this in the past but for some reason I got this issue in the upper part of both rectangles...any ideas as to why? Thanks if yo...

Head Scratcher: Rattleback

Ok, this is COOL. It's called a Rattleback and it is one of the best things I have carved yet using Aspire. Why? Because I could download the STL, put a chunk of Walnut in my machine and an hour later had this Physics-defying toy. You heard me: it ONLY spins to the LEFT. If you try to spin it to the...

What Time is it?

This is from a Wood Mag plan - but rather than turn, I just used the CNC machine. Translating the spindle dimensions for rotary was easier than I thought. Love the visible gears in the clock movement. I know: in this crowd I should learn to make my own gears...working on upgrading my skills guys - I...

Re: Old Logo - New Tricks! (Dragknife Acrylic)

XSTRON.COM. Said it would take a couple weeks but they arrived sooner than that. I got the 10 mm version which is USB powered in 10" long strips.

Pretty cool.

Old Logo - New Tricks! (Dragknife Acrylic)

A friend helps another friend restore Corsair aircraft. Have you seen the add where a couple sits down with the home designer, the wife hands him a bath fixture and says "design a house around this"? Well, this guy has custom milled entire aircraft with less...simply amazing! Friend 1 saw that I mad...

Re: Todd's Wonky Centerline Shoehorn

"Proper one?" Are you KIDDING ME? ANYBODY can make a symmetric model - it takes joi de vivre, artistic genius, poetic license and a certain, "it is my art, if you don't understand this is not my problem" attitude to create such a piece! Call Christies Auction house and tell them it's a famous lost I...

Fixed. Done. That was the ticket. Don't know how I've been using the software for 15+ years and missed that one - or recently must have changed. It. Thanks all!

Slow Preview

Ever since upgrading my copy of Aspire to 10.5+ the preview drawing mode is slower than normal. I reset my modeling resolution to High (From VERY high) and haven't changed my hardware. Something else I should be trying?

Thank you

The easiest one I have found for gathering topo data is here: you just select what you want and let it run. Boom! Load and go!
