Finishing a PhotoVCarve Project for food contact
I recently completed a PhotoVCarve project that I want to use as a base for one of those wire cheese slicer kits. I'm concerned about all the small grooves trapping food particles and being unsanitary. Has anyone finished a PhotoVCarve project for such a use? I was thinking of covering the surface w...

Re: Did VCarve ever support grayscale ("clip art") to relief?
VCarve cannot convert a grayscale image into a 3D object. But there is software out there that can convert a grayscale image into an .stl which you can bring into a VCarve project through the Modeling tab, Import a component or 3D model. Also a menu item, File, Import, Import Component/3D Model. A q...

Placing an image on a surface in 3d preview
I am working on a project for a customer. The project is a door with a cutout in the center and then a background piece with a plaque in the middle. The project is going to be painted with an image painted on the plaque in the center. It's not a v-carve or 3d model, it will be a hand painted image. ...

Re: Unable to access network drive
That happens to me also. I close VCP, open Windows Explorer and double click on the network drive. Once that opens in Windows Explorer, I can restart VCP and it will see the network drive. I have my network drive in energy saving mode so if it's not accessed for a while, it will go to sleep and powe...

Re: Wood species and quality
Just be aware that wood from a tree limb has way different properties than wood from the trunk. Limbs are comprised of reaction wood. The wood on the top of the branch is called tension wood and the wood on the bottom of the branch is called compression wood. Reaction wood has way different properti...

Re: Carving onto a unique sized piece of wood
setting the image for 0, 0, 0 should be rather easy. Take the center of the pith for example. Make that your X0, Y0 and it should be rather easy to dial in the wooden piece to the same coordinates.

Re: Anybody ever make a rolling pin?
Here are some rolling pins I made using my original Shark. I wanted to make heritage pieces of the corrugated rolling pins for my daughters and friends. These are based on a rolling pin my wife has that dates back to her great grandma and is used for making traditional Norwegian lefse. I don't have ...

Re: VCarve not updating
Also check to see if you are using the right icon to start VCarve. The update to 11.5xx is a new install and will be in a different location. If you continue to use the same icon on your desktop or menu you will be starting the old 11.0xx version. A new install of 11.5 does not remove the older vers...

Re: Dish with flat bottom
Wouldn't a fluting toolpath work? I knocked this out in about 2 minutes, and it can be modified to match up with the OP dimensions. Circular array a line around a point and use the fluting toolpath and tweak the settings to achieve desired shape. Might be a bit of a challenge to flip and do 2 sided ...

Re: Textured bowls
Want to share a few files? I'm always interested in seeing 2 sided projects and how they were set up. I also like the texturing. Like the way the texturing looks like it as cut with a gouge. I've tried a few but just can't seem to get the settings right to look more hand made.

Re: Scrap Redwood
Never underestimate the value of reclaimed wood. My neighbor tore off his old redwood deck to replace it with plastic. He was going to burn the boards. I couldn't haul them away fast enough. I'm sure a lot of it was old growth from the 70's. You just can't buy wood like that anymore. Fine Woodworkin...

Re: Customized lake patterns to carve?
I've made a couple dozen lake maps of various sizes and complexity. My favored method is to try and find a vector map of the lake. Many US state have some Geographic Information System vector maps on their conservation agency sites that are easy to convert into a dxf and import into VCP. if that isn...
