Re: Tool path is off-set

Did you let the project run for a while or stop it early? The offset strategy will start in the middle and work its way out. Switch to "Raster" strategy and it will use the start points. Also, the "Use New Raster" setting under "Toolpath Settings" in Options may have some effect.

Re: Tool path is off-set

I assume it was a 3D toolpath that you tried to calculate. Did you select "Offset" or "Raster" strategy in the toolpath setup before calculating?

Looks really good. I've never used "Lyptus" but it sure looks pretty.

In the material setup screen swap the X measurement (11") with the Y measurement (30") so the width (X) is 30" and the height (Y) is 11". Usiing the mouse, drag select everything. Then use the rotate tool to rotate everything all at once 90 degrees. Recalculate all toolpaths.

I usually use center also. There are advantages to using lower left though. All numbers are positive.

Re: Rustic letter opener

I cut another one out of Purple Heart. The blank was just scrap and had been setting around for a long time so it weathered to a dark brown. The edge grain was still purple though. Anyway, I think it came out better than the one in Maple.

Ted, Building boxes is one of my favorite things to do also. Your boxes, workmanship, designs and finishes are some of the best I've seen. I am a subscriber to WoodSmith magazine also and I have all of the back issues from the first to latest (digital). The skill levels of their projects range from ...

Re: OOPS!!! Where did the material go???

I guess everyone uses the methods they are most comfortable with. I always initialize the machine after a power down. It is an industry standard recommendation. I also always set Z-zero to the spoilboarrd whenever possible. Once it's set it never has to be reset unless the spoilboard is surfaced. Ev...

Re: How to place tabs back to the original setting?

Drag the free window up and as far to the left as possible. With the mouse button still held down move the window up or down slightly until you see the little tab at the bottom of the free window then release the mouse button.

Re: Help - Unable to

For us to look at it you will need to provide the VCarve file itself. Not the toolpath gcode.

Re: Rustic letter opener

Here is a link to the file if anyone would like to cut it themselves. Very nice looking opener! Thank you for sharing, but can it be converted to VCarve Pro? If I saved it as a VCarve file Aspire will strip all of the components and leave only the vectors. I suppose the components could be saved as...

Re: Rustic letter opener

If anyone decides to make one be sure to check all bit speeds and feed rates. I set them rather conservatively but may still exceed the limitations of some machines. Also, I didn't use any roughing toolpaths. It would have extend the cut times and I really don't think it needed any.

Re: 3d tool set

I think it also depends on your machine and how you have it configured. With mine, I always try to set the Z-zero to the spoilboard. There is a touch-off switch that measures the tool length after a tool change so I never have to set Z-zero again unless I surface the spoilboard or use the recoil ind...

Rustic letter opener

An easy one day project. Getting the right thickness on the blade was a bit challenging but still a lot of fun to make. This one is hard Maple.

Here is a link to the file if anyone would like to cut it themselves.
