The fillet tool works pretty good too.

Re: Please Help.

Here is one with a zig zag pattern using only one toolpath. I saved it as a .crv file for those that only have V-Carve.

Re: Please Help.

If your spoilboard is 48" by 48" and you are trying to make a grid with 2" squares you only need to make the grid 44" by 44". Unless you are trying to bevel the perimeter of your spoilboard.

Re: Hello CNC Patriots... I could use a hand up on Aspire

If you already have circles of 4" and 8" diameters then an alternate way would be to create a circle with a diameter 6" centered on the material. Drag the center point of the .25" circle to any point on the 6" circle then use the circular array tool with a rotational center of 0,0 and the number of ...

Re: Job Setup Z zero position machine bed

There are a lot of specific used for both but the bottom line is that it really doesn't make much difference as long as it is set the same on the machine and in the software. Cabinet makers use the spoilboard (bottom of the material) most of the time because it only has to be set once and then used ...

Steve I didn't write anything about high speed sanding???
Maybe you didn't. I kind of lost perspective of the title of this thread. I have turned pens on a lathe and on the cnc. More often than not I've used both to complete the job.

Re: Drilling and sanding on rotary axis

..... You mentioned some sort of stepper controller to allow continuous rotation on a stepper motor. Can you expand on that? Sure. If you go on Amazon or eBay you can find controllers that will run a stepper continuously. Ya gotta be picky because most of them are for itty bitty stepper motors, not...

Re: A Rotary 4th Axis disaster... I am very discouraged here

Milo, I think rigging up a lathe and cutting from the side is a good solution if you are making many projects. But for just the average "Joe" your method of generating a continuous spiral is more practical. It's what I primarily use for rounding and for 3D rotary cuts. As a separate note, How did yo...

Re: Drilling and sanding on rotary axis

Yes it can be done but it's not very practical. You would have to figure out the command to rotate the head stock with enough revolutions to drill the hole by hand feeding the bit in the tailstock. In this case, a lathe or a drill press would be prudent.

Re: Toolpath for roundover

The rail for the roundover moulding cut is offset to the inside of the edge by the width of the arc used for the profile. I add a tail at the bottom and used a zero boundary offset to compensate for the width of the bit as it goes over the edge. The width of the tail is not included. So, in the exam...

Re: Drilling and sanding on rotary axis

I've even designed then in Rhino and then ported them over to Aspire and that works pretty good too. It is still not a lathe, it does not work like one, at all. I can make a pen with a carving knife, that does not make the carving knife a lathe. All I'm trying to say is that cutting a pen on a cnc ...

Re: Drilling and sanding on rotary axis

A rotary axis is not an indexer is not a lathe. They are distinct machines. I have sanded on mine though. I just did an MDI of about 200,000 degrees with a high feedrate. Worked good. Have also done that to apply a nice finish. If you are actually going to do pens you are better off buying a small ...

Re: A ROTARY 4TH AXIS DISASTER... I AM VERY DISCOURAGED HERE

Try this one. If it works better I'll explain how I did it. I lengthened the material by 2" to stay within your dimensions.
