Re: CorelDRAW
I always design in CorelDraw, & export as a .eps to Aspire. It depends upon how complicated your designs are what is easier for you. I've never had to rely on the "tools" in Aspire or V-carve, so I admit I struggle with them. If I need to "trim" something, it never seems to do what I want so I just ...

Re: HVU sign board
Medex was a popular substrate in Ontario a few years back, but only for a year or so. Pretty much everyone who sold a sign made from Medex ended up replacing it for free within a year or maybe two. HOWEVER .... a friend of mine in Saskatchewan, where it's much drier than Ontario, has Medex signs tha...

Re: HVU sign board
BTW, if he needs signage on the main highway, remember, you need 3 seconds minimum for the sign to be read. You need a minimum of 3" letter-height for every 100' of visibility, so at 60mph, that's 88'/second, or 264' that the main copy will need to be legible from .... so 8" tall lettering, with a s...

Re: HVU sign board
Redwood .... it depends on if you want it to last or not ....... The attached pic is a HDU sign with no internal support. I found this in my travels, near Kingston NY. Yes, you can put a layer of plywood in between, but I would encapsulate it .... in other words, have it hidden & not exposed to the ...

Re: HVU sign board
Not to be contrary, but when costing out HDU, I think it's cheaper than a comparable piece of wood. Clear Vertical Grain Western Redcedar at $5750/ mFBM will cost you $368Cdn, BUT .... you need to joint it & glue it up, then you need a 48" planer ( or plane it on your CNC to get it really flat), so ...

Re: Wood Grain Texture Effects
Devin .... with the stepovers & the Z axis movement, it's hard to speed that up. much & have it still look "real". On a big sign, if you can do it with a .25" tapered ballnose, you'll more than double your speed . I hate sandblasting anymore as well, but I still have to. The CNC is awesome for cutti...
