Re: Gallery Of Machines

Here is an improved version of my second machine. In the Youtube link I explain the mechanics and electronics of the unit. The original machine was mainly made of mdf and the second was a steel version. This has been upgraded with a better linear bearing system and more substantial leadscrew and nut...

Re: Inlay Yoga Block

Very nice job. It has given me some good ideas for some spare 3 x 2 offcuts I was wondering what to do with. Thanks

Re: Brass nameplate samples

Those are very nice. I have been messing around with a few here. I have a couple of machine issue to sort out before I post any pictures of good ones. There is some over cutting cause by backlash and an V carve step over which is too large. I also have been experimenting with vibratory finishing. T...

Hand coded huh? WOW.

VCarve is awesome, ain't it?
It sure is.

The hand coding was a bit of a struggle  but it's amazing what you can do when you have limited resources but plenty of time.

ssflyer wrote:Nice work! But, out of curiosity, why are you hand coding some when you have VCarve Pro?
The hand coded ones were done before I acquired Vcarve Pro. Somehow I don't think I'll be hand coding any more.

Brass nameplate samples

'Flying Scotsman' and 'Billy Elwood' were designed and hand coded and took about a day each to code. On the other hand, 'REBUILT' was designed on Vcarve Pro and took about 5min to code. The last image was produced by Vcarve and shown to the client prior to milling.

Re: My 1st inlay

I try first with MDF with an 6mm end mill with an "allowance offset" of -0.05mm The parts fits wonderful with an vacuum effect. :D I reduce the size to 24x24cm². this is the minimum size that a 6mm end mill fits between the tooth of the parts. Because i use a vaccum table for that i leave a "papert...

Re: Mach III losing 'z' zero position

I have had this happen in all three axis at one time or the other... I was vcarving some text and the router suddenly plunged about .25 and continued routing. I checked the homing limit on 'z' and it was still fine. The 'z' zero had changed by the .25 amount. I thought before that it was the cnc lo...

Re: My 1st inlay

And yet another question for your beautiful inlay, if you don't mind? May I ask how you got the "dark outline" that appears around the inlay? It looks like your glue was the typical color but almost appears as a dark outline in your picture: 05 1st coat of varnish detail.jpg Possibly it's just the ...

Re: My 1st inlay

Frank, That was quick :D Have you considered how to adjust the size of some or all of the pieces so there is clearance and they will fit together? Tim I used tool offset G42 P[#1/2] where #1 is the tool dia and adjusted the dia from 6mm to something like 5.9 or 5.85 so that although the tool is phy...

Re: My 1st inlay

I don't mind - what do you need? The (VCarve) file for the puzzle. Frank btw: Are you from germany? As I mentioned in my initial message I coded the puzzle part by hand and therefore do not have a Vcarve file. I can let you have DXF files however. From Germany? - nine, nicht. I'm from the N.E. UK -...
