Re: Organizing STL Files and Adding to ClipArt

Thanks Randall, brilliant, I have a few files that would work on. Maybe it will force me to get organized too.

Re: Rotary 2 Rail Sweep

You might want to look at your material size, the diameter of your two rail sweep is going to be more than your material.

Re: Need Help - Pieces Not Consistently Cutting Through!

I doubt it is a program error so that leaves a mechanical issue. To me it looks like a problem on your Z axis, slippage, loose coupling or you might be trying to go too fast. I would try slowing Z down and see if that helps.

Re: I'm stumped on first 3D model

Is the mounting flange a rabbit around the top edge? If so just select the two outer vectors and pocket to the depth needed, it doesn't have to be a 3d toolpath.

Re: Very Large V-Inlay

No reason you can’t make it as big as you want, this one for my dojo is 36 inches in diameter. I did it with red and yellow cedar for contrast. After glue up I used the cnc to plane it down to remove the waste.

Re: Drill Toolpath

I did about 1000 3/8, 2 inch deep holes last week (mason bee homes) I used a freshly sharpened drill bit and used a straight plunge at about 80 ipm 5000 rpm. That is as slow as my router will go and the bit got hot but didn’t burn. Maybe I got lucky.

Re: Pocket Tool problem

The easiest thing to do is to copy everything to another layer, make sure it is the active layer, using the snipping tool, as Adrian said, snip the unwanted lines, making sure rejoin vectors is turned on, close the snipping tool. You should have a closed vector that you can use for pocketing.

Re: material surface xy start point

Where are you setting xy zero in cut 2d? It sounds like you are not setting xy zero in the same place on the cnc .

I am pretty sure you need aspire to do that, as you are trying to build a 3D object.

Re: corrupt processor file

To me it looks like an alignment issue. How are you aligning the wood from t1 to t2? It is rare for a pp to corrupt, unless there are other issues with the computer.

Re: 2d profile toolpath Problem

Looks like you have wiggle at the top center, that could mean it has a loop there that the cutter won’t fit into, zoom in and have a look.

Re: Two sided cutting of 3D slices

Okay so correct me if I’m wrong but could you maybe do that as a let’s say,six sided project, and use a rotary axis or a jig. You just have to rotate the model 3 times. Then you would get most of the undercuts, there would still be some hand work but hey that’s the fun part

Re: Live edge board outlining

I just finished doing 5 maple burls and had the same problem. The best/fastest way I found was to lay a ruler on it and take a picture, import and trace. If someone has a better/faster method I’d love to hear about it. The other way I’ve tried is to use a probe to trace it, but depending on the reso...
