The arrow keys will move by a distance that is a factor of how zoomed you are in. The arrow keys will move by a distance that is a factor of how zoomed you are in.
Any idea what the secret formula is that determines the length of move at a certain zoom level?

Re: Design for hire

I'd specify Lexan rather than acrylic. Acrylic is too brittle. Also, Lexan mills better.

Re: 10.5 and xp

Release notes say that 10.506 now runs on XP. Anybody confirm that?

Re: 10.5 and xp

Finally got trial Aspire 10.5 to work. Loaded and edited one of the sample files on a Win 7 machine and saved cut files to a thumb drive and then out to the shop and loaded those onto the XP machine that runs the CNC. "Only" had to run back and forth 3 times to make tweaks to the files. But it did c...

Re: 10.5 and xp

Michael Tyler, "I use a very old laptop with XP as my ShopBot controller computer in the shop." I have a similar set up. XP has plenty of horsepower to run my CNC. I do have a "real" computer in the house, but many times need to tweak a file just before running it--very inconvenient to go up just to...

Re: 10.5 and xp

I have the same problem. I tried on two different computers and get:
Error " the procedure entry point IntializeCriticalSectionEx could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL.32.dll."

All old versions up thru 10.0 worked OK, but 10.5 stops immediately with the above error.

Re: tracing a backhoe bucket part

I think he said it was 2000 watts. Really nice edge finish on 3/8" steel.

Re: tracing a backhoe bucket part

Drew this up in Aspire and had a local laser company cut the pieces.

Re: dovetails using CNC

Sure. IIRC I left 1/100" space for fitting and glue.

Re: layout newbee

Many times "Newbees," as you call yourself, don't yet know enough to ask the right question nor answer one that conveys the needed info. This is one of the best boards for solving problems--just ignore John before his morning coffee. Anyway, if you do a tight nest and the project pieces still...

Re: Blanket Chest

Getting the board plumb and indexed properly for cutting must be challenging, I don't see any stops or plumb adjustments. One clamp doesn't seem adequate to prevent slippage during milling. Can you share some insight into how you manage your setup? Dovetails and box joints are finicky little things...

Re: Blanket Chest

Thanks, guys. Here's the info on the "dovetails." The front is cut vertically thru a hole in the bed. The two sides are cut conventionally--flat on the bed. Those vectors are enlarged by 0.01" to allow for fitting and glue. Depth of both cuts was 3/4" to match the board thickness. .DXF's are for a 0...

Blanket Chest

Rather than hijack a V-carve post on dovetails, I'll post here. This is a hickory chest. Large top compartment and drawer below. You probably recognize the eagle on the drawer front. I also V-carved around the outline of the drawer pulls. Dovetail is more of a bear ear. Each hickory plank runs aroun...
