I have had the same issue. I have found the only fix is to save, close the file and open again.

For small text i use a EM2E4-2500-30V which can be purchased from
Https://www.precisebits.com/products/ca ... ngrave.asp

He smaller text shown in the pic is 3/16 aprox - I have carved 1/8" with these bits and been very satisfied with detail.

use the engraving function - it doesn't care if you creating text or carving a line and use the tool that give the profile you desire - it doesn't have to be a v-bit

After carving ...a couple coats of lacquer or shellac...dry...apply liquid shoe polish..like kiwi with the foam applicator on the bottle....spear it in to the letters....wipe off immediately with paper towels. Your stock needs to be thick enough account for the height of your model. If you cut a 3d model - AND you set your gap above model to Zero - you will only carve as deep as your model height. Assuming your model height is 0.25" and your stock is 0.75" - your carve depth will be 0.25" deep with 0.5" o...
