Re: Geometry Zero

I have often drawn a circle that goes around all of my design, centered where I want the center to be. Then I can use the alignment tools by selecting the circle along with the design. Otherwise, the center of a selection will be the center of the smallest rectangle that contains all of the selectio...

Re: Joining two circles

Normally, one would just use the trim tool (scissors). This works for the upper arc. However, the right hand tangent line doesn't actually touch the lower circle (zoom in). To draw a line tangent to 2 circles, use the Create Line tool, click on the first circle, then click on the 2nd circle close to ...

Re: Gear Maker-Be aware of these limitations:

You are talking about these two places (See the little circles) Should someone try to fix this? That is my opinion as a fairly experienced gear designer. However, the work-around of cutting the profile with the inlay toolpath is a fairly easy solution as long as the user knows about it. And take in...

Gear Maker-Be aware of these limitations:

(This has been submitted to Vectric Support) The Gear Maker Gadget has a major problem. It draws gears with a sharp inside corner at the bottom of the teeth. If the outline is drawn as shown and cut with a round end mill, the inside corner uncut material can interfere with the tips of a mating gear....

Re: How do you create a pocket with angled sides

To get a 90 degree corner with 90 degree walls, cut a conventional pocket with rounded corners, then use a corner chisel to square up the corners.

Re: Radial lines from a common point

Click the "Finish" button or the space bar to start a new line. Turn on the geometry snap so you can click on the start of the previous line (F4). Another method is to use the circular array tool.

Re: Newbie Alert: Can I get some feedback on this file?

The feed rate and the stepover for the clearance tool (450 ipm,.1875 -75%) are both higher than what I would use. I suspect that if you reduce both by 50% the finish will improve and you will be able to make the sign with only one tool pass. I realize that this won't cut the total time by very much....

Re: Vectric V11 Wish list

My wish is kinda minor, but it would be easy to implement. When a curved arrow is shown on an icon (such as for the rotate tool), I would like it to point in the direction of plus degrees. The present ones point in the direction of decreasing angle measurement. I submitted this request back for 9.5,...

Re: Inlay Help

A 3/8" diameter 90 degree V bit has a side height of only .1875". If you attempt to make a deeper cut (Which is what the first pass on the male will be, since it assumes everything above the start depth is air for determining the depth of the first cut) everything above the cutting edge "corner" wil...

Re: Please help me locate the information I need

You need a guide rail to locate the bar. Clamp a length of wood running in the Y axis to your table, and machine one edge so it is parallel to the Y axis. Place a marks at Y=0 and Y=24". Then clamp the aluminum to the table next to the guide rail, mark it at the 24" mark. When it is machined, move i...

I can’t read Aspire files so I don’t know if this has been done (but I would doubt it):
The free trial copy of Aspire will read the files and do everything except create toolpaths and export files. One can even Save As a .crv file to use in VCarve.

Re: fraction to decimal chart

If I was to use a wood filler for contrast, I would put a couple of coats of clear finish on the wood before carving, so it would be easier to sand off excess filler.

Re: fraction to decimal chart

If you use a dark wood filler (or stain) to make the letters "pop", don't use cherry for the base material. After a few years of exposure to light it gets quite dark and the contrast will be lost. Don't ask. :)
