Re: Aspire V11 is OUT NOW!

1st upgrade since 8.5, not a power user by any stretch but this was too much to resist

Re: Any guess what process created this ?

Yeah, bolts of lightning and roots come to mind viewing these meandering yet purposeful electric patterns. Am improving, did this one in iridescent blue and there was far less leeching, did a double coat of sealer on it and was largely successful. I got 1 more idea I'm going to try, I bought a vibra...

Re: Any guess what process created this ?

Impossible to replicate as electricity will always take unpredictable paths, but I am learning you can control or at least guide some things to a degree. Going to try to stay away from edges, seems that juice likes these and will quickly creep along one when found, usually resulting in unattractive ...

Re: Any guess what process created this ?

Not a planned project, crucifix in the live edge slab I made probably 4 or 5 years ago. I decided to frack the edges and it turned out pretty nice. Cannot really control the process but it can be guided to a degree, you can see at top I burned the wood pretty bad but it doesn't look too terrible. De...

Re: Etching Acrylic is a Drag

Tough to diagnose drag bit/plexi issues. You could try doing a hatch to minimize issues like that. I often spray a light coat of clear coat on plexi designs, results can be surprising. Also on something like the V I would have node edited to turn it into a single shape, that way at least you could h...

Re: Sons of Anarchy revisited

Have decided to keep the weird but strangely pleasing color, sanded a little more and applied 2 coats of clear coat and calling it good.
Epoxy fill was tempting but feared alot of runoffs, some of the channels/edges are uncontained.

Re: Sons of Anarchy revisited

I kind of like the dark color with the lightning. I know you are being as safe as possible. Glad to hear that. Yeah I do too, color is growing on me. Looks completely unnatural but rather eye pleasing, certainly unique. I did give it a light sanding with 400 grit and lightened it up a bit ,, To ble...

Re: Sons of Anarchy revisited

You are right Scott, spalt is impossible to predict and its nice when it falls into place. This one in red maple I did some time back but I just got an electro burner and decided to fry the sides, so I stripped it of clear coat and ran through the process which leaves jagged lightning looking burns ...

Looks promising - I have 10 electric guitars and lately have been reaching for the lighter ones the most.

Re: Sons of Anarchy revisited

Nice example in spalted maple, 13x9.5. Took about 6 hours with a 1/32 tbn, and just some rattle can matte finish.

Re: Any guess what process created this ?

I ordered one of the few [it seems] "commercially" available units which is professionally constructed and has safety features built it, I plan on being safe to the point of ludicrousity, but obviously can't be 100% safe with much of anything but the current needed to create this effect is brute for...

Re: Any guess what process created this ?

Yep I know, just being coy - Have a burner on the way and yes, can be lethal.

I think most guys who get zapped use hobbled together microwave setups

Any guess what process created this ?

Off topic sorry, really no proper place here for non vectric stuff but we have quite a few craftsman here who are into every manner of creation and am looking to pick a few brains.
Not CNC I will tell you that.

Re: Lithophane

What a terrible loss & nice memorial, I have done quite a few but kids are toughest of all. I usually set mine to cut .22 at the deepest parts and zero from the top, not much margin for error. One trick to use to avoid busting through which will ruin the whole thing [and yes I have done that more th...

Funny, I almost thought that was my shop in the pic, have much the same setup.

Looks great and just about right, you don't want the zebra getting too wild with the grain and looking too busy.
