Re: Circular text off centre

If the text is centred on the computer, then it has to be a machine issue. Maybe you lost some steps after the tool change?

Re: Embedded nails

Just order a cheap carbide end mill and cut away. I'd go larger, like 1/2" if possible. Might ruin it, but cheaper than remaking without brad nails. I count my time worth more than a $50 end mill. Brad nails cut pretty easy - a lot of people use 18g for hold down and cut into them regularly.

That looks great. The wood you used for the inlay, what type are they?
walnut, purple heart, yellow heart, padauk, cherry, and a mystery wood I found in my scraps pile (might be mahogany). Curly maple board.

Rooster project

Haven't posted anything in a while but this one is a little different from my day to day woodworks. My son-in-law needed a present for someone who "plays cribbage every morning and collects rooster paraphernalia". This is what I came up with! :D Took a while to draw up the vectors from a picture I f...

Re: Circle

Very unlikely its a software problem. Its hard to draw a circle with flat spots like that, and g-code to cut a circle is very simple.

More likely its something in your machine. Loose belt, backlash, etc.

Re: Removing Rapid move to safe height after toolpath

At the end of your post processor (which you can edit using any text editing software) there is a section that looks something like this (different for each post processor) + --------------------------------------------------- + Commands output at the end of the file + ------------------------------...

Re: Vice

Best thing I ever did was built 3 wood vices across the front of my cnc table, that index on the pop up pins and then bolt to the T-track. I use that more than anything else for hold down. Here I'm cutting a 60" long skinning board for my son-in-law.

Re: Glue 2 pieces of Corian

The best is the glue Corian sells, but its not cheap (I think I paid $100 a tube, but it comes in the exact colours you need). And you need a $600 mixing gun and mixing tips to use it. But you can't see the joints, and it becomes one solid piece of corian.

Re: ISO Dining Chair File

I have made many different dining chairs (love making chairs), but I find these stools are the best thing to have around the house for extra seating at the table when company comes. I usually have 10 or 12 at my house (in bedrooms, bathroom vanities, etc - we use them as little tables or as stools) ...

Re: Jig for camera aimng

Matthias is a genius. He is the one who basically prototyped the Pantorouter, which is now almost an essential tool in any workshop. Since its so easy to model and cut with a cnc, why not simply make an ACTUAL ball and socket joint? He is limited with his tools, and that is hard to do with conventio...

Re: Quick Question on SpoilBoard

You are overthinking this. Just cut a rectangle pocket around your 'mistakes' and glue in an MDF plug. Then surface the whole spoilboard 0.01" to make the plugs flush. That way the whole spoilboard is the same material (MDF) and will shrink and swell the same rate.

Nice work! That's a lot of gilding - must have gone through many booklets of gold foil!

Are you using 15# or 20# corafoam?

Re: Cutting two sides issues

When you flip a piece, any errors are doubled. So you are only out half of the difference you are measuring. Also, with a corner jig you are now referencing off two opposite sides (when you flip the workpiece, the opposite side now fits against the corner jig). So if your opposing sides are out by 1...

Re: Clamping Tip

Why the need for the 0.03 chipboard between the workpiece and your spoilboard? MDF spoil boards are meant to be replaceable. They take in moisture from the air and swell, which means they need to be resurfaced often to maintain their flatness. On a newly surfaced spoilboard, your machine should be a...
