Re: Ball and socket

Viktor,
I was really only looking for suggestions... there are some smart people on here that a much more savvy than me when it comes to squeezing features in VCP.

Thanks for your suggestions re other CAM and I have also been speaking to them about this.

Re: permanent tabs?

Mark,
They are not red.

The largest tool I am using is 8mm diameter. The machining margin is 1mm and the minimum waste area is 15mm.

permanent tabs?

I am running the trial version of Cut3D. My DXF source file is a cone of 24.9mm depth from a piece of material specified at 25mm thick. I have set the model position to 'Bottom' and the Z zero to the top (expecting 0.1mm milled off the top). My model diameter is 80mm and the workpiece blank is 110 x...

Re: Ball and socket

Bob, I have tried this for a couple of days but can't get Sketchup to work for me... I get close, but not all the way, particularly for the female radius (socket) as the origin is some-way from the arc. That said, I did find the STL export plugin for it. I've spent some time re-learning DesignCAD an...

Re: Ball and socket

Paul, Odd radii is one way to get a close (knife) edge and is a possibility. I'll be going to 15 degrees all round and the mass will be about 1.5kg The issue I have is that I am not a CAD person (I use CorelDraw a lot and own DesignCAD 3D Max) but I need to cut the ball and socket on the router. I h...

Ball and socket

I am using VCP along with my Heiz s720 but I now need to produce a ball and socket joint. A male hemisphere of about 100mm diameter and a female socket as a bearing surface (about 20mm of surface contact depth). Material will be a machinable but airtight plastic, perhaps nylon. I can't justify the c...

Re: Parallels

Thanks for that. I guess switching through BootCamp will be no problem... I'm off to buy a new computer! :D

Paul,
Thanks for that... I would use XP in the Parallels mode too.

Parallels

I am looking to replace my laptop and am considering a MacBook Pro... Always wanted a Mac and now they're getting affordable!

Does anyone here have any experience of running Vcarve Pro under Windows Parallels?

Re: Switch waste material

This is a problem that affects me too.

I am creating tool paths for routing foam case linings. I do not want to use pocket as the run time would be too long and the profile cut (inside) works perfectly.

All most situations would need is a toggle to invert the waste/work area.

Re: chips from engraving stick to the plastic

I noticed a similar problem and tried using compressed air as a coolant.

Chips went all over the place but at least they were cool and didn't stick to anything.

Re: VCP suggestions

Current task in hand due to broken cutter  is replace the cutter in eight tool paths and edit the work accordingly. Global replace of tool from tool database would be nice: 1. Multiple select (highlight) tool paths 2. Select replace tools 3. Dialogue Box: "Are you sure?" 4. Select current tool...

Favours can be expensive...

When just stepping out of the norm to do someone a favour remember to restart your own work from scratch.

Did a front panel for a friend's hi-fi today and then put my vacuum table back-on to restart work... Sparks from my lovely aluminium vacuum table as the bit dived-in!

Re: Offline files

Scott, thanks for the suggestion. I use offline files which I get free of charge from my Windows SBS system which does the same thing locally on my network when I logon/logoff, except it gets its knickers twisted with some files (EXE and database files). I need to try this by disconnecting my laptop...
