Re: Completing a rough cut job after losing X-Y location
If the third pass is the last pass, you could set the pass depth on the tool to be the full depth.

Re: Gadget installation on Win7x64
I have the same problem as the OP. When I try to install the gadget after accepting the license agreement I get a screen where I am supposed to choose what components to install but there is nothing in the box to select. I'm still on Vcarve 6.5. I tried to install several different gadgets and it wa...

Re: How to jump over Knots?
Along the lines of what Leo said, when I need to cut a lot of small same sized parts out of solid wood first I cut the wood into strips that are a little wider than the parts. Then I glue it up into a board that is wide enough to take full advantage of the cnc. Because I'm using hardwood knots aren'...

There's a link x/y checkbox that if unchecked lets you change one without changing the other

Re: Connecting Closed Vectors to Closed Vectors ??
You could copy the whole group of vectors onto each layer and then use the trim tool to remove what you didn't want from each layer.

Re: Trying to do some "CNC Chip Carving" with V-Carve
What screws things up is overlapping vectors. If you had vectors that would overlap but weren't in the same toolpath you're okay, but if you had a duplicate on a layer it wasn't supposed to be and therefore ending up in a toolpath it wasn't supposed to be, then you have problems. When I do this sort...

Re: Fractal plaque
If you look at the google image results, it's the second image, mostly purple colored. It's a more artistic rendition of it rather than a direct conversion. I had been looking at some really nice chip carving and had tried to come up with one of my own but wasn't really satisfied with the resulting ...

Re: Fractal plaque
Thanks! If you google for "lambdafn" you'll find the source image, but a lot of work went into transforming it into something that could be v-carved.

Fractal plaque
This is what happens when you try to interpret a fractal image as a chip carving. Edge profile done separately at the router table. Dimensions about 24"x12", as big as my lil shark will go.

Re: Cutting curves.
An example of this technique here: http://www.vectric.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11529
I used half of a sin/cos wave there so it would blend in with bottom surface and curve into the top, you'd want to use a 1/4 wave to make it come sharply out of the bottom surface.

Re: Cutting curves.
You could brute force this by creating closely spaced contour lines with the offset tool, then run profile toolpaths on the contours. You'd have to do all the math to figure out the depth for each contour. You could do this in a spreadsheet program using a sin() function to get a nice curve. Of cour...

Re: How to cut wide chamfer on edge of board using ball nose?
Do people really have $80,000 cnc machines but not $500 router tables or a shaper? I just don't understand the logic of why you'd even want to do this when you can do it better and faster with something inexpensive.

You can also texture the whole surface and then machine the letters separately, inserted into pockets
