Re: Plywood

Be VERY careful with Chinese plywood. Use a metal detector on it before using any bits or blades on it. I had a piece that when I ran it thru my tablesaw with a $100 plywood blade, I saw sparks coming out of the plywood. Found a huge chunk of metal embedded in the plywood. Since then chinese plywood...

Please help with creating this shape in Aspire 10

I'm getting started in modeling and have tried all the different modeling tools to get the shape in the pictures below. I am striking out. I know it can be done, I just don't know how. I created the shapes pictured in Sketchup in about 2 minutes. I want to create another Pyramid4.jpg to intersect th...

Re: Bad machining marks

Martin, I could be that the wood has some squirely grain patterns. I've had this happen on some types of wood where the grain is all over the place. It has happened using both razor sharp hand tools and powered tools. Depending on what I'm doing, I look closely at the grain pattern to make sure it i...

Re: Ramp and lead on last pass?

I use the method Adrian mentions except I just save the two tool paths into one file. All first passes are done, then the final pass is done. I tend to climb cut all my first passes, then conventional cut my final pass. I get a cleaner and more accurate part when done. The climb cut pushes the bit a...

Re: What have you been cutting?

Plywood cabinet parts. LOTS AND LOTS of them. I get not only chips but also small chunks of plywood and slivers of plywood. I haven't been able to do much "playing" with the CNC as work keeps getting the way and 10 hours a day of cutting plywood makes you want to just get out of the shop at the end ...

Re: Thin Plywood

See if there is a cabinet shop supplier in your area. They specialize in products like you are asking about. 1/8" ply is used a lot in cabinetry and furniture making. My local suppliers have 1/8" in all you've mentioned plus other species.

Re: Info About Using a "mini pc"

I've got one of those All-In-one machines that has the monitor and everything in the same box. It has 4 USB ports. I also have an external USB HUB to run all the other stuff (keyboard, mouse, barcode reader, printer, label printer). The CNC is connected to the USB ports built into the PC. I use it t...

Re: Possible new capabillity in Aspire

I learned a new word today offal Which is crazy that I have never heard the word before since I am actually in the business of "offal". I Love this forum! Well, it really should be "off fall" but no one says it that way. It is very common in sheet metal shops, especially ones running turret presses...

Re: Possible new capabillity in Aspire

Cranking up the "way back" machine. . . . :::clunk:::bang:::hiss:::: I used NestLib when I was writing this stuff. It was not that the module needs the capability but rather the software feeding it. One of the things I wrote was the ability to capture "offall" so those pieces could be stored for su...

Possible new capabillity in Aspire

I do a lot of sheet processing. And with that comes a lot of nesting. Current nesting allows only one sheet size to be used. Would it be possible to add the capability of using partial sheets in the nesting process? For example, I have a full sheet of 1/2" MDF and two sheets that are 21" wide x 97" ...

Re: FLAKEY PROGRAM

I've had problems like this when my mouse is starting to get flakey. I hold the left button to do an operation and things start/stop where I had not intended. Put a new mouse on and everything worked great. Mice do wear out after awhile. I replace mine once every couple of years.

Re: 45 degree hole

I'm a Rhino user trying to create a simple model for someone who uses Aspire 9.5. He's trying to insert a 4" dust port into .5" thick material at a 45 degree angle. I made a model for him in Rhino by creating a 4" cylinder, rotating to 45 degrees, placing it through the center of the .5" thick mate...

Re: multiple profile passes without z return or unneeded jog

This seems so basic, but I can't figure how to quickly program multiple passes on an on-the-line profile, without having unneeded z clearance moves, and return to start point moves before lowering for next cut. I want to go: Z1d, A to B, Z2d, B to A, Z3d A to B, etc. I can do this manually to the c...
