Re: Drag Knife Gadget?

This is my take on the making of a vinyl cutter head for my Eshapeoko CNC machine. IMG_0689.jpg I have looked at soooooo many different ways of doing this by others, but all seemed to have one or other areas that I wasn’t too keen on. The primary fault in most designs - as I saw things, was the inab...

Re: Requesting Gadgets

OK Adrian, if it's that easy, where exactly, and how, do I get the tool from in Cut2D to make up the new tool? - I can't even create a tool called Drag Knife as the software won't allow me to (to my knowledge anyway) - let alone specify knife offsets and swiivel depths etc. Not really bothered too m...

Re: Requesting Gadgets

Any chance of having a gadget for Drag Knife cutting in Cut2D? Yes, I know it is available in Cut2D Pro as well as all the other higher priced variants that Vectric supply already, I just don't want to pay an extra £288.00 for an upgrade to Cut2d Pro to get this gadget! I am very happy long term use...

Re: Drag Knife Gadget?

Don't see an expensive upgrade as a good cost effective way of gettig where I want to be, Ijust hope there are others who could maybe help me with the basic tool settings for using a drag knife using Cut2D. Its easy enough to add a tool and modify the settings, I just wonder if somebody has already ...

Drag Knife Gadget?

Have looked to find this gadget after reading :- https://docs.vectric.com/docs/V9.0/VCarvePro/ENU/Help/Gadgets/Drag%20Knife%20Toolpath/Drag%20Knife%20Toolpath.html Have looked everwhere I can think of to find this gadget - with exactly nil success. I know the page is dated 2018 and things have maybe...

What settings for engraving bits?

Hi all, Looking for advice on what settings I should use to pocket out this design. I'm using a 20 degree (10 degrees each side of vertical) engraving bit with a flat diameter of 0.2mm and a 40% stepover. Have done it once (6.5 hours!) and the flat areas seem to have a poor finish - especially in th...

Re: Tapered holes anyone?

Adrian, Thanks for that, I think I'll give the profile cut with a spiral ramp a few test runs on a piece of scrap first. Tried a toolpath preview using a drilling toolpath but don't think it will give the same 'wide' top to the hole (for the pencil) as I seem to get when I preview the inside profile...

Tapered holes anyone?

I'm looking for some help to find out how to drill small tapered holes in some 4mm thick acrylic/perspex sheeting. In essence I want to make a guide for drawing parallel lines and I need a way to drill a tapered hole using a 20 degree engraving bit large enough to allow me to use a normal sharpened ...

Chamfer Gadget Query

Looks an interesting and possibly useful gadget, but I can't seem to select what (to me) seems to be the obvious tool to do the job - namely a 'V' bit. Looks like I can only select end mills - all the others being greyed out.

Am I missing something here?

Well, thats solved a couple of niggles for me. I think I understand a bit better now.

I'll experiment a little later on today just to make sure I understand fully...

Re: Circle centres

Thanks Adrian - never even thought of that - the pressing M and clicking on the centre dot gives the actual location of the original.

Not sure I understand the concept of spacer vectors to align on though....

Circle centres

Is there any way of determining the exact centre of a circle when importing a drawing into Cut2D? I often import small parts with various holes to be cut out or drilled - but sometimes I have to make an adjustment to either the size or the location of a hole. Sizing is not a big problem - but re-loc...

Re: Trouble cutting Corian?

Paul,

Like the idea of cutting oversize and then doing a final at the proper size - I will try this next time I,m doing some corian.

If I find I'm still having problems, I'll post again....

Many thanks for your invaluable input - all very illuminating for me.

Regards

Re: Trouble cutting Corian?

Hi Paul, You may be on to something there. Just measured a 3" square and found that the bottom of the piece is 3.001 and the top is 2.995 - not a great difference - but enough. Design called for 3.00 inches - 0.001 oversize I can live with. I'm using a 3mm upcut twin flute bit to do the final profil...

Re: Trouble cutting Corian?

Have checked all bearings (New Kress 800 FME) and all OK and tried to check alignment as best I can - trouble is with such short bits, it's difficult to see accurately. Z axis only has a 2" travel so it is also difficult to check the alignment by using a longer bit - not to mention getting hold of a...
