Re: Bird Bath
Once I had the two molds complete I put the Corian in the oven at 325 degrees F for 40 minutes. So the corian actually melted and reflowed into your mold?!!?? I've never heard of this process before! Very interesting! The Corian doesn't really melt. It becomes soft and pliable so you can form it. T...

Re: Man Cave
.... Used my CNC to digitize the profile so I could locate the text appropriately. Imported the points around the perimeter into my CAD software, created splines through the points, and then exported the sketches to a DXF file.... That looks really nice for a "cave." How about a little more detail ...

Mallets
I had some hard maple scraps left over from a table I built for my daughter. They were just the right size to make a few mallets based on the design shared by the good folks at Vectric. I thought the original handle thickness of 3/4" was too narrow so I increased it to 1". That made me think the hea...

I was originally planning to make a live edge cribbage board from this piece of walnut but after I got it cleaned up I decided the blemish in the middle was too large and would interfere too much with the hole pattern. Since it wasn't going to work for a cribbage board I decided to make a wall sign ...

Re: Bird Bath
I don't think gluing up several sheets of Corian and then machining everything out would be very practical. The first problem is that the Corian is never perfectly flat, so you'd first have to machine each sheet to get perfectly flat surfaces so they could be glued up well. That alone would take a l...

Bird Bath
We forgot to empty our bird bath last fall so when the water froze it cracked the ceramic bowl. Instead of buying a new one I decided I would try making one out of a scrap piece of Corian. I started by cutting some scrap pieces of 2x4's into segments to make an octagon, and then glued them up on a p...

Carved Stool Seat
The Vectric article a few weeks back about the carved stool seat inspired me to give it a try. I had a piece of scrap oak wood a friend gave me that was literally headed to the burn pile if I didn't take it. It was beat up and had screw holes on one side where someone had mounted a reloading press. ...

Live Edge Cribbage Board
Used my CNC to digitize the shape of the walnut. Then imported the values into OnShape to generate a CAD model that has the scoring holes follow the edge profile. Exported the hole pattern as a DXF and imported it into VCarve. What makes it special is that the wood came from a tree on my daughter-in...

Family Clocks
I made clocks as Christmas gifts for a couple of my children. The spalted maple produced a very nice color and figure. Sizes are 18" and 14". The backs have a series of pockets to help reduce weight. There is one large pocket near the top that was finished with a profile cut using a dovetail bit so ...

Porch Swing
I made a couple of these porch swings for my daughters. Material is white oak so it is quite rot resistant. Finished with Penofin Red Label stain. I used the CNC to cut the seat supports, back supports, and arm rests. I also engraved a scripture verse in a couple of the back rails. The seat and back...

Re: Pencil Box with Sliding Lid
@strataboy, did you slice the lid from the same block of wood? The grain of the lid is pretty well matched with the bit of grain showing at the top of the box. Good job in any case. Sorry for the delayed reply. The lid was from a separate piece of wood. I made several other boxes for all my grandki...

Re: Double sided project
In my opinion a mechanical method of alignment is better than any gauge or edge finder. Easier to set up and more likely to give good results if you pay attention to a couple of things. I do double-sided work by flipping the material against pins or a corner fence. For large work I have indexing pi...

Crokinole Board
My daughter asked me to make her a Crokinole board. I started with some 1.125" thick planks that were 10-12" wide. Cut them into 32" lengths and then ripped them into narrower widths so I could joint and plane them. Once everything was cleaned up I glued them all together to make a 32" x 32" piece t...

Pencil Box with Sliding Lid
IMG_1476.JPG IMG_1475.JPG Pencil Box Dovetail Sketch.jpg I was looking for a way to use up some random pieces of scrap wood and decided a pencil box would do nicely. It will make a nice gift for my grandson. The sketch above shows how to calculate the offset between the dovetail path on the lid and...
