Christmas Edge Light SIgn
The clear acrylic and translucent blue/red acrylic was cut with the laser, digital prints in the "O"s. Ivy along the bottom was printed on clear vinyl. The base was done on the shopBot/Aspire 9.0 using the Floral Sawg file from the library. Bottom layer is oak with Mission Oak stain. The top layer i...

Re: First Aspire job
Thanks mtylerfl. GeneMpls, It's a home made backhoe. Backhoe fits inside extension forks to get extra height for the scaffolding. It's faster and a whole lot easier for a 1 man operation than lugging around traditional scaffolding. Load all the heavy stuff on the platform and raise it up. scaffold 1...

Re: Drawing script on painting
I have an old engraving attachment from a manual machine that I adapted to the CNC. I took the spindle out and kept the spring loaded slider and made a marker mount for it. I set it up so the marker just makes contact and the engraver slider adjusts up and down to conform to any irregularities in th...

Re: 3D File location
I was pausing the site tonight and stumbled across this thread. I realized I never posted photos of the project I was hoping to do a custom design on. I still haven't upgraded to the latest Aspire, but it's still on the list. Probably do it when I upgrade the CNC. I have a 4th axis and a few other b...

Re: Change spoilboard?
I have 3/4" oak plywood as a base with a 3/4" MDF spoil boar screwed 12" on center so it stays flat. I screw it down from the bottom side and I use aluminum screws, so if I happen to hit one it doesn't hurt the bit. I use 1.25" screws so it's not likely I'll ever will hit one.

Re: 1st use of plotter pen
I used an old spring loaded engraving head. Took the rotary tool off and made a bracket to hold magic markers. I've done a lot of 4'x8' outline drawings for stage props. (then the kids painted them like a coloring book). The markers wear down after 3-4 sheets, so I just buy cheap markers and change ...

Re: Cutting 1 inch foam
I've cut a lot of foam over the years. Pink foam from the big box store, White foam from the same place. High density foam for signs. It does make a mess. Before the ShopBot I ran a MultiCam that used a ball screw drive for the "Y" axis (25+ years ago). The foam would stick to the threads and build ...

Re: Change Vector Stroke Size
My laser just follows vectors as a centerline if I'm cutting or as a boarder if I'm scanning/filling a design element. What brand/type of laser do you have?

Re: Texture toolbox offset spacing issue
I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it, but I recently did a sign with a texture background. I did a separate offset outline around all the boundaries of the text & graphics, offset enough to stay clear of the original vectors by at least 1/2 the width of the bit. I cut the background and the...

Re: Fuzzy Fish?
I've never tried this myself, but would it work to give it a coat or 2 of varnish or some other high solids finish, on the table, let it dry and run a cleanup pass after it's dried? Not real efficient time wise, but I wonder if it would work or just make a mess?
