Re: Z-Zero shifting mid-process

o be honest, I'm a terrible mechanic and have been wary of every having to turn a screw on that thing from the day I bought it. You have a good machine and you will actually be more comfortable with it when you get to know more about it -- I know I have with my machine. The very nature of CNC means...

Re: Knife Handles

Is that your .125" shank .5mmTBN?
Yes. I may try the 0.75mm and 0.25mm to see how they perform.

Re: Depth of cut for Fluting toolpath

The flute depth is controlled in the fluting toolpath

The number of passes is controlled by the tool pass depth.

Knife Handles

A set in hard maple, and a set in black walnut, straight off the machine. My tapered ballnose bit looks to be dull, but I've gotten 50 hours of cutting time out of it. Not bad for a $5 bit.

These are for a chef's knife.

Re: WHowe to search the manual

<Ctrl-F> invokes the search function.

It is best to put it into Single-page view to search the entire manual.

Re: vcarving depth problem

SBK, Please refer to these two articles in the FAQ: How do I set the Cut Depth when v-carving? How can I adjust the depth of my v-carving when it is too deep or too shallow? If the cut piece doesn't match the preview the most common reason is that the material is not flat. To solve this problem firs...

Re: Line 9274 End Point Error

Since that isn't an error within a Vectric program you may wish to ask your question over on the Shapeoko forum.

Re: Having a problem with a pocket tool path.

I'm curious why you have so many toolpaths. It would machine quicker just using the bowl bit for pocketing, and using the 1/4" bit for the cutout. Is there another problem you are trying to overcome by using the 1/2" end mill?

Re: Inlay

I would also recommend a larger angle on the v-bit. That way you have a wider base so there is less likelihood for the little pieces to tear out or break off. I’m currently using a 60 degree bit.

Re: Raised Letters

An alternate approach is to use the V-Carve toolpath with a flat depth. Place the text inside a closed vector. See the attached example along with the CRV file
