Re: V12 - Unable to select Tapered Ball Nose tool for Vcarve Inlay toolpath
I think I've asked this before, but don't remember the answer if there was one. What is the advantage of a TBN over a good sharp v-bit for v-carve type applications like the v-carve inlay? I know there are v-bits that don't come to a sharp point, but it isn't that hard to find ones that do (or at le...

Re: curving a rail sweep in Z?
There are 5 main final components (copied around the quadrants) but I also created a couple of intermediate components that got baked in. The 5 components are the center, the 2 leaves on the bottom, 1 corner leaf, and a middle component to fill in the center of the bottom leaves. The intermediate co...

Re: curving a rail sweep in Z?
That is exactly the kind of shape Aspire is meant to create. I did this while waiting for a sheet of doors to cut. It would need a little more work to be closer to the original, but it's mostly there.

Re: curving a rail sweep in Z?
Yes, the rails themselves are limited to z=0. That can't be changed. But, you can achieve similar things by adding the second sweep or as many additional sweeps as necessary to get the effect you want. For example, what if you wanted to have the two edges undulate differently? In the top version of ...

Sorry, you said concave, not convex. Here's what it looks like concave.

Re: colour coding templates
The Vectric software doesn't care about colors when it comes to toolpaths, only layer names. Colors are just to help you visually tell one layer from the other.

Re: curving a rail sweep in Z?
You can't do it in a single sweep. Has to be done in 2 sweeps perpendicular to each other. See pictures below. First picture shows the two sweeps separate. Second shows them combined.
The rails on the top sweep are on the long axis of the sweep. The rails on the bottom sweep are on the short axis.

Re: colour coding templates
It works on the basis of layer names. General process: 1. Make sure all the layers you want to use are in the file 2. Create a toolpath. At the bottom of the toolpath panel you will see an option for "Vector selection". Click the button marked "Selector". 3. In the Vector Selector window, check the ...

Re: Saving the sketch carving toolpath as a file
Not directly, but I did find a workaround. Create your sketchcarve using a neutral background. Preview the toolpath. Save the preview image using the button in the Preview Toolpaths panel. Open a new file, and import the saved image. Use the Trace Bitmap tool to capture vectors from the image (I fou...

Re: Longing for the multi-drill head
There are other advantages of a drill head. On a 9-position head, you can choose to put other sizes of drills in the "horizontal" slots, for use in things like hinge holes and dowel holes. Otherwise they'd have to take up a position in the tool changer, which reduces the number of tools available in...

Re: VCarve Version 12 is OUT NOW 🎉
I can see where that kind of drawing/photo would work pretty well with it. I tried it on photographs of people and was not happy with the results at all. Also, the results are nicer when there is a very plain or nonexistent background. For those playing with AI images, request a bas-relief image wit...

Re: VCarve Version 12 is OUT NOW 🎉
No, you can't edit the sketchcarve vectors, and no, it's not exactly like trace bitmap. It works best with 3d models or good pictures of 3d models. It can work with more general photographs, but it's not meant for that and the results may be less than appealing. It does a great job with 3d models, t...
