Re: Measuring Letter
I think you need to convert text to curve before measuring.

Re: Epilog Laser
You can't run files direct to an Epilog laser from Aspire for cutting. I am not sure if engraving will work or not, I just use CorelDraw and it is more reliable (I personally think). It is completely different to run an Epilog laser than a regular CNC (the line width determines if it will be cut or ...

Re: Feed Rates, Plunge Rate and Spiral Ramping?
I would try .25 to .5 inch ramp length on the smooth ramp. On my machine, the ramp and cut speed are the same. That is what I would personally try.

Re: Bit for cutting out wood
Are you climb cutting or conventional cutting? I use a 5/32 inch down cut bit and get pretty good results in 3/4" red oak. I cut at about 125 IPM at full depth.

Re: How to cut dovetails?
What cut direction are you cutting in? Looks like the upper board is cut in climb direction to me.

Re: Recover deleted toolpath
Two words...save often. I have lost hours of work due to a computer lock up. Now I do a profile and save. That way I don't have to redo as much work.

Re: nesting question
Simply put, you can't vectors touching or overlapping each other when nesting. Not sure if layers will separate will work or not.

Re: Welding issues
I figured out that converting text to curves then welding produced poor results. By not converting text to curves in Corel Draw and then welding produce the results I was looking for.

Welding issues
Is there anyway to weld a vector like an o with a vector across it that is like an l without losing the middle sections? I know the scissors will trim it, but I have tons like this to get done up. I tried CorelDraw and it doesn't weld reliably with multiple images. Might be my copy or my computer. S...

Thanks! I am hoping to be able to learn how to act like a professional one day!

Re: June Workshop
I look at font making as an art form itself. Some people knock out fonts and they look too much like another font. Some are so unique that you never see another like it.
I look at the old letterheads on Ebay sometimes. Lettering is probably a large part of sign making I guess.

Re: June Workshop
Never made a sign. I have a machine I built myself, 5x8 with about 5" of z. I have made some carvings, but I am about as green as they come for sign making. I would love nothing more than to do an apprenticeship in a (good) sign shop and learn some of the tricks. The only sign shop I know of in this...
