Re: Like button

I LIKE a Like button with a counter. I would much rather look at a post with a great solution have 12 likes than read twelve stupid replies that said, Great Solution! Clutter!

Thanks. Using File->Open Application Folder gets me to the folder with all the other folders including the Tool Database.

Re: Machine Setting Copying

I'm trying to figure out where Machine Configuration is stored. Reading this thread, I get the 'impression' that it is stored in the Tool Database. Is this correct? This came up as I was adding a new machine to my workshop. I looked for files, but didn't find any specific to my existing machines. So...

Re: Cheap End Mill Was Wrong Size

Very informative and interesting discussion about measuring. Question: Would doing a test cut and then measuring that be more accurate? Would you measure inside the cut or outside? It doesn't matter. If you cut out a pocket, with the cut on the inside of the line, you would measure the width of the...

Good tip that they’re supposed to be metric, and lesson learned for me on measuring bits before use.

Re: Cheap End Mill Was Wrong Size

Spektool bits are metric. 1/8" are 1/8" shank (sort of), but the cut is not 1/8", they're 3mm. Design for 3mm (0.118") and you'll get a nice fit. I use their end mills all the time. I love the O-Flute design, but you need to MEASURE your bits before you use them.

Re: CNC Software

and after I get it to DXF format how do I get linuc x software to recognize it. You don't. linuxcnc wants GCode file which is what you have. Its in the file location but it does not show up as a choice when i try to run it. The other files in the existing folder say they are NGC files ?? Rename the...

Any idea how to convert a TAP file to DXF file.
A Google search for GCode to DXF should yield plenty of results. This forum is persnickety about mentioning 'other' software. You may need to rename the file to .nc or somesuch.

Re: Inlay on a curved surface

The box looks to be segmented, maybe 8 sides. That makes the task a bit easier, but you still need to account for the curved surface. I suppose you could have 3D models for each of the segments and then apply the inlay pockets to the 3D model...

Ouch! Good catch! Don't tell the children, they're too busy trying to stay out of jail. Avoiding Connecticut might be a good way to do that!
