Anyone interesting in making a box?
I used to make precision level storage boxes. Long got away from that. I have a guy in San Antonio, TX wanting me to make another custom box but I don't have the time to do it. He has been asking for over a year but my business is just not slowing down. So I asked him if I could see if anyone down i...

Re: Mississippi River Boat
That is totally cool. I should know, I working on/around the Mississippi river for 15 years. Part of my job was refueling the Delta Queen and Mississippi Queen river boats on their travels from St Louis to St Paul. Really cool part of my job. Even had a ride on Delta Queen up to a set of locks as th...

Re: Tractor tires - CNC Router and Laser
Made my second run at this using Maple. This time I cut two stand off blocks to over laser side of wheels. Bolted them together tightly so the laser couldn't shoot down the side too far. Worked pretty good I thought. Only issue I had was a little slippage on the rotary. I widened the lugs and such a...

Tractor tires - CNC Router and Laser
Not that detailed but a fun project. Posted on Sawmill Creek too. ------------------------ Ok, modeled wheel in Aspire. Don't do much in 3D modeling so I have to relearn stuff. But I liked my model. Machined on cnc router, 1/8" bit. Then made the tread in Corel. Bolted both wheels together with a 3/...

Re: Change rough rastering direction
On some of my projects doing pocketing, I will change step over on bit just a tad to force a direction change. Example, I will look at my tool path on the drawing to see which way the arrows show. Some of my boxes I want to cut right to left because of the first cut being full width (heavy cut) and ...

Re:Clamp officially in service
OK, used the clamp for the first time. I added some T-molding I got from T-Molding.com (12ft for $15 delivered). Used my 1/6" blade out of my dado set to cut slots and pounded them in with a plastic mallet. I wished the molding was flatter but it still seemed to work. Added knobs that are 2 1/2" dia...

Re: Trying to make simple 3D model
Ran my newest design, made a few tweaks after cutting first one. Cut in balsa. I'll hand this off to the guy that will stain it and tell him if his staining doesn't work we can try to find a better wood. I didn't seem to have anything I thought was like it. " You can draw boundaries around the areas...

Re: Trying to make simple 3D model
Ok, I might be there. I lowered the 3D cross and changed up how I machined it. I think I will be able to sleep tonight . Will try machining it tomorrow. So much time on this little part, but that's how I learn I guess.

Re: Trying to make simple 3D model
OK, I think I am getting somewhere. Now I need to figure out how to cut on the main cross down to the 3D points. Any ideas. Boy, this 3D stuff if tough if you don't use it more often.

Trying to make simple 3D model
For some of you this will be simple, me not so. Struggling to get what you see in the pictures. Been asked to make few of these crosses to replace missing ones is a chapel connected to a hospital I do some work at. Try as I might, I can't get the look I am after. The small spurs (points) I can't see...

Re: Box or Frame Clamp
I am thinking something similar for mine. I have ideas of snowmobile slides as I always have cut offs when I size mine. Was looking at T edging for counter tops too in plastic. Just haven't decided on a solution yet.

Re: Box or Frame Clamp
Here are my clamps I made. Had some 1 1/8" plywood cutoffs I acquired somewhere years ago and decided this was as good use. I had to use my cnc router to plane them down to size. I first made the original clamp supplied in the file and decided for most of my boxes that I needed a little longer versi...

Anywant to try making a model for me?
I just don't seem to find time to make this and I am a bit rusty so I am asking if anyone wants to make a stab at modeling this. It is for a local church the I do business with and I will be v-carving a 4ftx8ft sign for a Christmas Tea gathering. They came up with this teapot that they absolutely ha...
