Re: Fluting Toolpath Issue

Hello Vic: I was finally able to give this tip a try over the holiday weekend, and the answer to your quesiton is yes. I ended up shortening the length of the end of each fret slot by 0.015". When I headed out to the shop and ran the toolpaths on the actual fretboard material, the finished piece loo...

Re: Fluting Toolpath Issue

Aha! Just trim the ends of them by one or two hundredths. I'll try that as a first step when I get back to my computer and re-run the animation. I have a gut feeling that this will work. I'll report back afterwards. Thank you all again for your time. This project is going to be cool when it is all d...

Re: Fluting Toolpath Issue

Thank you for the suggestions; I'll work on figuring out how to implement mtyler's suggestion next. Still learning, so it will take some experimentation. To answer Adze's question, unfortunately the notches are not just a graphical artifact. I did already cut out an experimental fretboard using thes...

Re: Fluting Toolpath Issue

Thank you for the reply. I originally had created the toolpath using the 2D profile option (cutting "on" the vector), but I had the same problem. I tried the fluting toolpath as an experiment to see if that might eliminate it. With the profile toolpath, I did indeed have a 0.5" ramp length set in. T...

Fluting Toolpath Issue

Greetings Vectric forum experts: This should be a simple one for the more experienced Aspire users out there. I am designing a fretboard for a bass guitar and am nearly done. The only issue left to resolve is the fluting toolpath I am using to cut the fret slots. I have included a shared link to the...

Re: 2D Profile Toolpath Issue

Wow, you guys really have a sharp eye! Prior to posting the project file on this forum, I thought I had gone over the vector with a fine-tooth comb looking for these sorts of anomalies. Yet there was still one bad node hiding out that Martin and Steve were able to find. I just went back into the com...

2D Profile Toolpath Issue

Hello Vectric forum experts: This will likely be a quick fix, but it has me baffled. I have a guitar body outline vector for which I have created a profile toolpath (see attached file). I want the tool to remain outside of the vector to simply cut the body out of the material block. The problem I ha...

Re: 3D Finishing Toolpaths

Here's another possible workflow that might be a solution to the tool-snapping problem: 1) Revise the 3D finishing toolpath by changing the machining limit boundary offset from the full tool diamter (0.125") to 0" and recalculate. This would be done for both sides of the job. In theory, I would thin...

Re: 3D Finishing Toolpaths

Hi Steven: I just finally got a chance to take a close look at your post. Very nice of you to provide the pictorial essay. I recieved my replacement tools from ToolsToday this afternoon and am ready to give it another shot. Once thing that will make my job a bit more tricky than your essay is that m...

Re: 3D Finishing Toolpaths

Thank you all so much for your quick response. Adrian's reply confirmed my previous thought that maximum cut depth cannot be set for the finishing toolpath. Adrian, I did set the roughing toolpath to only leave 0.20" material for the finishing toolpath to remove. This is why I was surprised that it ...

3D Finishing Toolpaths

Greetings Vectric forum: I'm relatively new to Aspire but nonetheless took on a pretty ambitious two-sided, 3D project for my first go. I have designed a bass guitar neck using the two-rail sweep modeling technique described in the Vectric Tips and Tricks video "Making a Guitar Neck." The design too...
