Re: Coloring images engraved in aluminum
Hi Ken, I've had a lot of luck using acrylic paints, especially acrylic paint markers, sand afterwards with fine paper for a brush finish or if I want a polished finish, and have the patience (but rarely do), I buff the aluminum before painting with rattle-can paint (acrylic doesn't clean off as eas...

Re: June Workshop
I'm anxiously waiting and might see you Thursday evening. Count me in for breakfast Friday, too. I have a Shopbot that's been sitting idle for the most of the last two years and I'm hoping to change that soon. I've cut some aluminum, making hitch covers, license plates, and a few hot rod parts and h...

Thanks for the compliments. My Uncle loved it and many others complimented it, too. My Aunt will truly be missed.
Thanks,

I cut this for my Uncle today using Aspire to make a component from a bitmap. It couldn't get much simpler with this software! And, I was lucky enough to have a good pic that didn't need editing because I'm not good at editing photos. Anyway, I am happy with the detail. The memorial is cut from an 8...

Vectric and American Wodworker
I spoke to Randy Johnson (writer for American Woodworker Magazine) in Memphis last fall at the Vectric User Group meeting and have been watching for an article to appear. It has finally come and I just picked up the Issue #153 April/May. Randy started a new series, The CNC Workshop and shows how eas...

Re: Is this possible?
No matter what material you use, you could profile all the letters with the largest diameter tool that gives you the definition you're trying to attain, first. Then, before pocketing, offset the letter's vectors out by a few thousandths (or some amount less than the diameter of the profile cutter us...

Re: Anyone know the pass depth tolerance?
I averaged four depths, 0.5 (0.454), 0.625 (0.565), 0.75 (0.681), and 0.875 (0.795) which gave about a 9% difference to create two passes. The number in parentheses shows the maximum depth required for two passes. I'm curious why you ask. Why wouldn't you just divide the depth by half?
